“Opportunity?”
CHAPTER FORTY-TWO
Balor
“Opportunity?” I mumble to myself.
What the hell is that gangly woman filling my Ella’s head with?
Bugging and wiring Corvin’s apartment with cameras was brilliant. Only, I never thought I’d be sitting perched on her roof with rappel gear, listening to the woman who’s having my baby get advice from a tribunal of BFFs telling her she has options.
There are no options.
We’re getting married.
Maybe not today. But this ring in my pocket, a four-carat, near-perfect round cut in a halo setting trimmed in more diamonds will be on her finger by nightfall. My brothers bought their rings at Crest Diamonds, but I know a secret about the owner. One that if Lachlan knew, Archer Crest would be dead before Corvin.
It piques my curiosity if Shea’s issue with Trace is related to what she went through with Archer right after he’d broken her heart last summer. It was around the time Trace provided extra security work for her.
Not wanting to give Crest Diamonds a penny of my money, and after five minutes of research, I made an appointment with a top private jeweler and just asked for something obscenely big and expensive.
“You have an opportunity to negotiate,” Ms. Gangly says.
I zoom in on her and say to Shane who’s listening from the command center, “Find out who this is.”
“I don’t want anything from him,” Ella argues, and my nerves relax.
She never struck me as a gold digger or even close to it. Even flat-out told me she doesn’t want to get married.
“I think it’s in your best interest to come to some kind of agreement,” the blonde jumps in.
“I need dossiers on these two women,” I mumble to Shane, pinching the bridge of my nose.
“Ropes are secure, sir,” Marcus, a climbing instructor who trained me to tackle Kilimanjaro a few years ago has his specialty gear fastened to his bird so I can rappel to the corner balcony of Snow’s living room. “Ready when you are.”
I could bust my way into Ella’s apartment through the lobby, but guards carry guns these days. I don’t want to get shot, and I certainly don’t want to kill anyone.
I just need to get to Ella. And this is way more fun than any other route to her.
“I got the drone footage. It’s just three women including Ella.” Shane rattles off the names. “What’s the end goal here, Balor? Are you really going to kidnap her?”
“It’s not kidnapping,” I grit out. “She’s just confused.”
“You really are an O’Rourke,” Shane snickers. “I held a slight doubt, some hope even, thatyou’dbe too cerebral to fall down the same insanity well your brothers had when it comes to women.”
Funny, I thought the same about Eoghan, but he dove into the deep end over Jillian and went over the edge worse than any of my brothers. I cringed at the shit he was doing.
Glancing around, I smile, thinking he didn’t go this far. I may have won the insanity prize.
Sure, we’re alphas and possessive, but we’re also competitive as shit. I think this one even beats Lachlan who killed Katya’s fiancé at the altar.
WouldI murder someone if forced? I’ve never taken a life. Never needed to. I destroy lives electronically. It’s more fun that way. I can fuck with a breathing soul for the rest of their life.
Once someone is cold, and in the ground, the revenge is over.
Ella’s father crashes into my head. Lachlan has the go-ahead to kill him once we get his code.
Now, he’s the grandfather of my child.
