Page 82 of Hers To Keep
I spot them instantly, running out of the warehouse, Remi dressed in her usual version of a short strapless dress. But my dick instantly hardens when I look up and find Scarlett looking fucking sexy as hell in a long red silk gown, similar to the one my uncle gifted her the night of his infamous dinner that started it all. Fucking bastard.
She looks fucking stunning as the sun sets, illuminating her in its red and purple gleams, my heart beating voraciously as I impatiently watch her approach the car. She looks around terrified and out of breath as Remi pulls her further away from the warehouse.
They haven’t seen me yet. I can tell by the look of fear unmistakable on both their faces. Scarlett continues to look frantically around the lot before her eyes meet mine sitting behind the wheel of Maxwell’s rental. A glimpse of relief flashes in her eyes before she takes off running toward me. I practically jump out of the fucking car rushing to meet her halfway, wrapping my arms around her body tightly, before hoisting her up as she wraps her legs around my waist. I crush my mouth to hers in a frenzied kiss.
God, I fucking missed her lips. I missed the feel of her skin beneath my hands, the way her tongue eagerly moves in rhythm with mine, searching every corner of my mouth with a desperate need that rivals mine. Her body is hot against mine, our heartbeats mimicking our need, our lungs gasping for every remnant of air in us, and our hands desperately roaming every inch of each other.
“Fuck, Ace. God, I fucking missed you,” she cries against my lips, my dick digging into her sweet little cunt as she eagerly grinds against it. Instantly my baby’s aroused, unashamed of what she needs from me and what I’ve been dying to give her for a whole fucking month.
“Fuck, baby, don’t you fucking dare leave me ever again,” I growl against her neck. “Promise me, Red, promise me you’ll never again run from me, you’ll never turn your back on us.” I claim her lips once more, swallowing her moans as she nods her head giving me the answers I need.
“Never, baby,” she whimpers against me as my hands grip her ass, squeezing and pulling her cheeks in my hands. “I swear I’ll never leave you again if you never let me go.”
“You’ll always be safe with me, Scarlett. I will make sure until my dying fucking breath.”
I didn’t think it was possible for my need for her to intensify any more than it already was. But as I hold her in my arms, after everything that’s happened, after almost losing her multiple times in the last few months, I know I’ve never loved her more.
We kiss for what feels like hours before we’re interrupted by someone clearing their throat. We both turn and find Remi standing behind us, her hands comfortably resting on her hips as she raises her brows glaring at us.
“Any fucking day now, it’s not like we’re stealing from anyone or anything,” she mocks sarcastically. Shit, she’s right. Wesley must have heard by now what they’ve done or at least that I’m back in town.
“Do you have the ledger?” I ask looking back at Scarlett, setting her down on the pavement. She nods, holding a small, leather-bound journal in her hand, a sly smile taking over her earlier frightened frown.
“Great, now let’s get the fuck out of here.” I move to open up the passenger side of the car, but instead of jumping in Scarlett turns to face Remi.
“Come with us,” she says, grabbing her hands and pulling her toward us. “He knows you helped me. He’ll kill you, or worse. You have to come, Remi. I won’t leave you here.”
“I can’t, Scarlett. As much as I’d want to, I can’t leave my sister. I’ll be fine. I promise. I can take care of myself, I have done it for years now.” Remi turns back to look toward the door they just exited.
“Go get Lexi and tell her we need to leave!” Scarlett yells, gripping Remi’s arm tighter.
Suddenly the door the girls ran out of is thrown open, revealing a very out of breath Lexi standing on the other side. She quickly spots us and slams the door shut before running over to where we are beside the car.
“You guys need to get the fuck out of here,” she shouts, out of breath. “Luke’s awake, he’s rounding up some guys and they’re headed out this way.”
“You need to go now, Scarlett!” Remi shouts, but Scarlett doesn’t budge.
“I’m not leaving without you guys. I can’t just leave you here to pay for what I’ve done. Luke is going to be furious, he’s probably already contacted Wesley, so you either come with me now or we’ll all be caught.” Scarlett turns to me, a plea to help her convince them to join us in the deep blue of her eyes. Fuck, we’re not getting out of here if I don’t do something about this.
I move toward Remi and Lexi. “She’s right, Lexi, you guys have done so much for us, we’re not leaving without you so get in the goddamn car before I throw each one of you inside. We need to get the fuck out of here.”
“Ugh, seriously, babe,” Remi sneers, turning to Scarlett. “How do you deal with his fucking temper?” I growl, gaining a wholehearted laugh from the three of them. Not sure how I feel about these three being friends.
Scarlett wraps her arms around me kissing me once more. “Well, he’s lucky he’s cute.” Like fucking magic, my earlier irritation vanishes.
The four of us get into the car, barely making it in time before Luke and four other guys come rushing out of the warehouse. They instantly spot us as we drive away and get into a car of their own before chasing after us.
Chapter
Forty-Six
SCARLETT
“Ace, please drive faster, we need to get away!” I shouted frantically as we sped down the twisting hillside toward the border of Hillcrest Hills and Pleasant Hills. Ace was already driving over one hundred miles per hour, but Luke was tailing us closely, while the other vehicle was trying to run us off the road.
The silver SUV sped up, the sound of shrieking tires and the putrid stench of burning rubber overpowered my senses, as a loud thud was heard and we were thrown against the side of the vehicle we were in.
I startle awake from a horrifying dream only to realize it isn’t a dream at all.
