“Alright then. I’ll meet you at my place in an hour. Don’t be late. I’ll be ready and waiting for you,” she said suggestively, grabbing his buttocks and squeezing.
“See you in fifty-nine,” Gabe said devouring her with his eyes.
“Bye then. See you around Sam,” she tossed over her shoulder, gloating as she deliberately ignored Darcy and Annie.
Shaking his head and shrugging his shoulders, Sam said goodbye to Sydney, then turned back to look apologetically at Darcy and Annie, as the two women stood there with hands on their hips watching Sydney’s retreating backside.
Darcy and Annie exchanged a look that said it all.
“Go figure. What does Gabe see in that woman?” Annie asked.
“Besides her gorgeous body and beauty? Not quite sure. She must have a side we didn’t get to see today. She was probably thrown off by us being here,” Darcy said generously.
“Her type gives women a bad name,” Annie grumbled.
Just then, Gabe came out from the tack room, so their discussion was shut down. Acting as if nothing had happened, Gabe was cheerful and helped Annie pick the horses’ hooves and soft brush Gil. She finished giving the last piece of apple to Gil and prepared to turn him out. They walked together to the pasture gate, slipping the halters off their horses, and watched them gallop away to join the rest of the herd.
Sam had come up behind Darcy as she was brushing Whiskey and sneaked his arms around her waist, snuggling her tight against his body. He nuzzled her neck and inhaled the scent of her.
“You always smell so good,” he said.
She leaned back, loving the feel of his muscular body against hers. She felt a hardness beginning to press into her buttocks as he whispered, “You have such an effect on me, Shamrock.”
She leaned her head all the way back, looking up into his smoldering eyes, “Sam, believe me when I say, I am ready to take it to the hay loft. You are by far the sexiest man I have ever laid eyes on, and I want you sooner rather than later.”
He turned her around to face him, kissing her full on the mouth as she pressed her pubic bone into his arousal, rubbing against him. He raised his head and put a little space between them as he brushed her hair back affectionately. “I don’t want to scare you off, but I’m in an emotional free-fall here, Darcy. Please go easy on me,” he said.
“Well, then put your money where your mouth is and take me!” she demanded.
“When the timing is right,” he replied.
“Your timing or mine?” Darcy asked.
“It will be well worth the wait. Good things come to those who wait,” he said, laughing as she swatted at him, her eyes practically spitting.
“Let’s turn these guys out. They’ve earned their break.”
They both watched as the horses ran to the others and dipped their heads down to graze. It was such a peaceful setting, and Darcy did not want to leave.
“Can I twist your arm to stay for dinner? Annie can take the car and I can run you home later,” Sam suggested.
“Yes!” Darcy replied immediately, surprising them both.
“Well, then that’s settled, it’s a date!” He happily gave her a quick peck on the cheek, grabbed her hand, and they walked back to tell the others their latest plan.
Gabe said, “I have to get going as well. I’ve got to shower before heading over to Sydney’s for dinner.” Turning to Annie, he said, “It was great being with you, Annie. I had a wonderful time.”
“Me too. I am glad I met you. I hope you aren’t in too much trouble,” Annie said.
“Nah, she’s really not a mean girl. Her bark is worse than her bite.”
“If you say so,” Annie said dubiously.
“I’m sorry if she ruffled any feathers. She doesn’t know how she comes off at times,” he said in her defense.
“No problem, Gabe. It didn’t take away from our awesome day today. No worries and no hard feelings on our part,” Darcy chimed in.
“Bye now. You take care of yourself.” His eyes met Annie’s one last time before he turned to head to his house to clean up. She swore that she saw a twinge of regret as he quickly turned and walked away.
