Aunty M sighed happily at us. “You two are so cute. I am going to take apicture.” She pulled out her phone and snapped more than a picture of us while I stood there awkwardly.
Jay grinned while he slurped his milk and looked at me like it was me who he wanted to slurp. His grin widened like he knew exactly what I was thinking. I blushed.
“That’s enough, Aunty M,” I muttered to her.
“Well, I need pictures to show your children how much their mommy and daddy loved each other. You two are going to make the cutest babies.”
My ears turned red, and Jay choked on his strawberry milk. Well, good for him for teasing me, but I still rubbed his back because I loved him. I was pathetic.
“Okay, kids. I am exhausted. I have an early shift tomorrow, so I should probably go and hit the sack.” She yawned after she took about twenty pictures of us.
“Must be some weekend with Liam.” I wiggled my brows.
She blushed. “Yeah, he is perfect,” she mumbled as she headed to her room.
“She is so in love,” Jay commented.
“Yeah, I am so happy she is doing something other than work or looking after me.”
Jay nodded. “Liam is a good man. She should have fun because looking after you is hard work.” He joked.
Jay had met Liam a couple of times before, and he had approved of him. Which made me feel a lot better becausesometimes I was clueless about people’s real intentions. It made me happy that Aunty M ended up with a good man.
I swapped his arm. “I am the best kid to take care of in the world,” I exclaimed.
“She should say that not you.” He smacked a kiss on my cheek.
I pulled away. “You don’t get any more kisses, mister. I am so mad at you.” I scoffed
Just then someone knocked on the door. “Em, Evy. It’s me, Katy. You guys should come out now.”
I gave Jay a confused look, and he shrugged like he didn’t know what was going on as he opened the door.
“Guys, come on now.” She rushed us to her car parked in my driveway. All the guys were there, excitement evident on their faces.
I wondered what was going on as Jay and I headed to the car.
“Listen,” she told us as she increased the volume on the radio.
“And for now, the talk of the town. The Four Foxes have been creating a massive buzz wherever they go. They just opened up for the Crash Riders, and their fans have been going crazy. Next up is their latest single, ‘Brown-eyed Girl’, playing now,” the radio announcer said.
My eyes widened as the first notes to the song hit, and the guys erupted in cheers.
I jumped into Jay’s arms. “You are on the radio,” I screamed at him. “And it is the song you wrote for me. It’s on the radio.”
“Yes, sweetheart,” Jay said, in his usual calm self, but I could see it in his eyes—they shone a bit brighter like he was one step away from achieving his dream.
He grinned, kissing my forehead. “I am so close, sweetheart. All that I ever wanted was soon going to be mine. I can feel it,” he whispered.
“I am so proud of you.” I smiled at him.
The very next morning, Katy announced to the band that they had a very important meeting and asked us all to come to Jay’s house around eleven.
Jay and I were already here—he went to unpack all the equipment, so I waited, chatting with Emily in the kitchen, sipping coffee.
“Hey, Lily,” I called out as Lily walked into the kitchen.
“Hey, Evy.” She hugged me from the side and kissed my cheek.
