She blushed. “I will go and get my bag from my room.”
I was glad that she was picking up fewer shifts now and spending more time with Liam.
“Hey, Liam.” Jay man hugged Liam.
Liam was almost as tall as Jay, around his forties, with striking pale blue eyes and dark blonde hair peppered with a few gray hairs and smile lines forming around his eyes. He reminded me of that doctor from Grey’s Anatomy.
I waved to Liam from the kitchen. “Hey, Liam.”
“Hey, Evy.” He smiled.
Liam and Jay talked for a while before Aunty M rushed out, and they headed off.
Jay and I waved them goodbye as they left and locked the door behind us. We walked to the kitchen to clean up. Jay always washed the dishes because, according to him, I cooked, so he cleaned. But he also cooked sometimes but never let me wash the dishes. This man was just too perfect for any girl.
Even though we were in high school, sometimes it felt like we were an old married couple.
“So, socks killed your feet, sweetheart?” He laughed, putting away the last plate.
I rolled my eyes as I threw a strawberry milk at his face, which he caught perfectly.
“Ouch, sweetheart. Don’t be mean. You are too adorable when you are mad.”
“I am not mad,” I mumbled. “I want to go to bed. I am tired.”
“You didn’t have to tell me twice. I am always up for bedtime with you,” Jay said, wiggling his brows.
“No, to actually sleep. I started my period, and I am having mood swings from it,” I said as I made my way to the stairs.
Suddenly, Jay lifted me up into arms, bridal style and he carried me to my room. I snaked my arms around his neck and leaned into him.
He gently laid me on my bed like a porcelain doll and slid in beside me as he switched off the lights.
“Good night, sweetheart,” he whispered, rubbing my stomach.
I mumbled back a reply as I turned to my side, and he spooned me into his delicious warmth. I drifted off to a peaceful slumber.
It was the next morning when Jay got a call from Katy when she told him that Pacific White had fixed an appointment for this Thursday. They had even sent them flight tickets from Seattle to L.A. The guys were so excited, it meant that Pacific White really wanted them.
It was Sunday today, so that meant only four days before Jay left again. I was cuddled up in his arms as I scrolled through my phone.
“I am going to miss you,” I admitted.
Jay kissed my head. “Yeah, it’s only going to be a couple of days. I will be back.”
“Why do I have the feeling that you are never coming back?” My eyes shone with unshed tears. I was feeling too emotional today. I wanted to blame it on my period, but I knew that wasn’t the real reason.
“Hey, sweetheart. I will be back. Don’t worry. I hate seeing you like this.” His eyes were so soft as he ran his thumb along my cheek.
“I just have a bad feeling, Jay.” I shook my head. “I don’t know why. I know how hard you worked for this opportunity. But I don’t know, it just feels weird.”
“I feel that way too. It’s so hard to be without you. I felt like I was going to go mad at times. I wanted to keep you forever with me,” he whispered softly.
“I want that too.” I smiled sadly.
My phone vibrated with a ping. A sound I had set specifically for my important emails. My heart pounded as I opened the app, and all the blood left my face.
“What’s wrong?” Jay asked in concern from the look on my face.
