I jam my finger into his chest and speak so only he can hear me. “Your ass goes to the hospital and gets checked out or no sex.”

His eyes darken. “Is that a threat, pretty girl?”

“It’s a promise, Bear.”

I break out of his hold and return to Isabella. Noah carefully picks her up and carries her out to Grayson’s truck. I scoot in next to her in the middle seat and Grayson slides in next to me.

Grayson’s back seat is so spacious, and Isabella is so small with the front passenger seat pushed all the way forward, we’re able to put a box with pillows on top to prop her leg up.

Noah jumps in the driver’s seat and checks his phone before putting the truck in reverse. I peek out the back window and see Harper talking to Wesley.

Shit. I’m being a really crappy friend tonight. I keep abandoning her in an unknown and uncomfortable situation.

Maybe I’m more exhausted than I think.

It looks like they are both heated about something, and I wonder if I should get out to intervene.

Grayson’s hand squeezes my knee, pulling my attention away from my best friend. “She’s fine. You have nothing to worry about with Wesley.”

I’m hesitant but I trust him.

We head towards the hospital, and I try not to fall asleep so I can keep an eye on Isabella.

About five minutes into the drive, she falls asleep with her head resting against the window.

Grayson sees her and cups the side of my head, moving it so that it rests on his shoulder.

“I’ve got her. You did great. Take a quick nap.”

My eyes flutter closed against my will. “I have to make sure you don’t fall asleep.”

Grayson strokes his hand up and down my thigh absentmindedly. “Noah will keep me awake. Sleep.”

I glance to the front to find Noah’s eyes already waiting for me in the rearview mirror.

“I’ll keep him awake, Lolo. Thanks for being a badass tonight.”

Leaning forward, I pat Noah’s shoulder and rest back against my teddy bear.

Exhaustion wins and I fall asleep, grateful that although Isabella’s life is forever changed, I didn’t lose the one person who has become my world.

Chapter Twenty-Four

Grayson

Logansitsnexttome, talking to the older nurse who is inspecting the bandages on my head.

I didn’t want to get checked out, but my girl insisted. All I cared about was Isabella getting here. Her dad was already at the hospital when we got here. The relief in his daughter’s eyes was enough for me to feel better about getting hit.

Tonight was a fucking disaster.

Landon said it was going to be an easy in and out, but we didn’t know that the asshole who was keeping Isabella captive had an accomplice.

I know Landon must be feeling like shit right now. He apologized at least twenty times on the way to The Hideout. He’s usually against bringing in outsiders to our missions but when Noah said we should call Logan, he was the first to agree to it.

I don’t blame him for tonight but no matter how many times I tell him, he won’t be getting over it for a while. And I know this is only going to cause him to be more anal about missions from here on out.

Logan squeezes my hand and gives me a sympathetic look before returning to talk to the nurse. I’m unable to focus on their conversation because I keep replaying Logan’s interaction with Isabella over in my head.
