Page 26 of Light of Christmas
The missions he has gone on since he proposed haven’t been as traumatic as this one. He comes home, tells me about what happened then he is okay after he naps and checks on the victims.
But this one is different.
Grayson breaks the silence. “Alright. Let’s call them.”
I decide Noah is the best option to call since he texted me about twenty minutes ago. It proves to be the right choice because he picks up right away.
“Lolo. You guys okay?”
“Yeah, we’re fine. Are you alone or do we need to add Wes and Landon to the call?”
“I’m with Wes at The Hideout. I’ll add Lan to the call.”
“Hello?” Landon says, sounding exhausted.
“Hey. Lolo and Gray are on the phone too.”
“You guys okay? How’s Addison?” Landon asks.
“We’re good. Addison is in the ER. We are in the truck waiting to hear an update.”
I give everyone a rundown of what happened and I hear Wes grumble something on the line which I’m sure is plans on how to kill the asshole who did this to her.
“Fuck. Gray. You good man?” Landon asks, sounding concerned.
Grayson runs his hand down his face. “Yeah-h…Fuck.”
Tears burn in the back of my eyes as I watch him try to find the words to explain what happened.
“Miles and I found her tied to a pole in the basement. She was screaming and wouldn’t let us touch or even talk to her. The rope he had tied her with was so thick, it took us forever to cut through it. The entire time she screamed like we were killing her. I lost track of how many times she passed out before we got her back to Logan.”
I can’t help the tears streaming down my face. I wipe them away as fast as I can.
The car is silent while everyone processes what Grayson just said.
“Gray. I’m sorry man. I didn’t know it was going to be that bad. I wouldn’t have sent you there alone with the twins if I knew.” I can hear the guilt and hurt in Landon’s voice.
“You didn’t know Lan. No one did. Don’t beat yourself up about it.”
“Alright. Well, keep me updated if you hear anything. The twins are going to take care of the asshole. I was able to get them clearance into the facility he is staying at. Thanks again for doing this. And I’m sorry it was on your vacation. Love you both.” I hear the line disconnect and everyone is silent.
I hear the boys tell each other they love each other when we say goodbye or after missions. But this is the first time Landon has ever directed it towards me too.
“Logan?” Wes asks.
“Yeah?”
“Did it happen this time while Gray was in the house?”
My mind wanders back to him and I sitting in the truck waiting for Grayson and the little boy, Ryan.
“It started to, but Lainey and I helped each other through it before it got too bad.”
“Good. Glad you both are okay. See you when you get back.”
Noah jumps on the phone before I can say bye. “Proud of both of you two. Can’t wait to see you when you get back. Your furbabies miss you. Love you both!” And then he hangs up.
I turn my attention back to Gray. “I’m proud of you. I hate that you had to see that, but how you dealt with it was perfect. Thank you for telling me and allowing me to be here for you.”
