Stroking Angel’s hair, I said, “Like I told you, sweetie, he’s just a business associate, but he’s fun.”
My mother turned assessing eyes on me, and I gave her a reassuring smile before blowing a kiss at Angel.
“Be sure to pack your school bag tonight.”
She nodded vigorously. “I will, Mommy. Love you.”
“Love you too, honey.”
As I walked away, she yelled, “Tell Scott I said hi.”
Stifling a grin, I yelled back, “I will.”
Angel’s interest in Scott made me uncomfortable. She could be a bit obsessive, and I didn’t want her fixating on Scott. When she was interested in something, Angel could be like a scratched disk—hard to get out of the groove she was stuck in.
