Loki pulled Fenrir into a hug. “Let’s talk tomorrow.”

Fenrir nodded and removed a piece of paper from his pocket. “I got through the list. They all agreed.”

Loki took the paper. “Thank you. I appreciate it.”

Fenrir stepped out of the way, and Loki and Val entered.

“What is that paper?”

Loki didn’t meet her eye. “Almax’s siblings. Fenrir paid them all a visit for us. They agreed not to say anything.”

“How did you get them to agree?”

Loki smiled. “Fenrir can be most charming when he wants to be.”

Val cocked an eyebrow at him. “You’re a terrible liar.”

Loki dropped his jaw in mock offense. “How dare you! I invented lying.”

Val shook her head, and Loki kissed her hair.

“Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.”

Confusion played over Val’s features. “What the hell does that even mean?”

“It means you and Elle are safe. Don’t question it. Just accept it.”

Relief flooded Val.She wanted to believe Loki, but she still wasn’t sure. She’d had one fallen angel lie to her so far. What was to say others wouldn’t lie as well? She would have to question Loki more about it later, now wasn’t the time.

The spacious room was like the front of an apartment. An ample leather sectional hosted half a dozen people. Behind the sectional, a wall of dark French doors stood open and led into an atrium of some sort. Odin tended to a bottomless fire pit, cooking meat in the middle of the grassy area while talking to a man and woman.

“Val.” Frigg waved from a bar in the corner and walked over.

“Hello, Lady Frigg,” said Val.

Frigg chuckled. “Just Frigg and I’m so glad the shoes fit you. I was sure they would. They go perfectly with your dress too.”

Loki looked down. “Did I not buy you shoes?”

Val shook her head. “I figured sneakers or boots weren’t the best match. Somehow Frigg knew that too, so she sent me these.”

Frigg waved her off. “It was nothing, dear. I’m just glad you came.” She produced two drinks and set them on the counter. “You too, Loki. It’s been too long since the whole family was together.”

Loki nodded. “Agreed. And I commend you for being able to get Fenrir to come. Only Hel is missing, but she rarely takes time off.”

Frigg nodded. “She’s quite busy.”

Val and Loki sat at the bar when there was a knock on the door. Fenrir opened the door for Thor and Elle.

Frigg smiled.

Loki sipped his drink.

Val sniffed the liquid. “What is this?”

Loki smiled and winked at Val. “Mana of the Gods.”

She cocked an eyebrow and sipped. Her taste buds exploded. Every favorite flavor she’d ever loved rolled across her tongue and blended together.
