“Hey!” he yells as he cocks it. The loud click causes everyone to pause. “None of that shit in here. I am not afraid to put a bullet in multiple heads, so if you value your life, get the fuck out of my place.”

Peace floods my body. I turn to look at Kohen and he walks through the small circle of men. He grabs me by the waist and we move to where the waiter stands.

“I mean no disrespect, Henry. I was just protecting my girl,” Kohen states.

Henry holds his hand up and nods “I know, man. I saw you outside waiting for her, so I know you didn’t start shit.” He pats Kohen on the shoulder. “The rest of you need to get the fuck out. Your money isn’t good here so don’t bother paying, just leave and don’t come back.” They pass by slowly, Walker included.

He looks at me and winks. “Remember what I said, lil mama?” My eyes raise to Kohen’s and he is staring straight at Walker, unaffected. Kohen doesn’t say anything but he doesn’t need to, the power emanating from him is enough. Walker breaks eye contact first but Kohen’s eyes never leave him.

Once they climb into the car they came in and leave, Kohen looks at me, eyes watering. “I’m so fucking sorry, angel. Are you okay?” He pulls me in for a hug and kisses my forehead. I nuzzle into him, his warmth enveloping me.

“I am now, you don’t have to be sorry. You couldn’t have known.”

“Yeah, but I should have stayed in here and waited for you, I just…” I interrupt him with a kiss.

A coppery taste touches my taste buds. I lick my lips as I pull back to look at him. His lip is busted and his cheek is swollen. “Your handsome face,” I frown.

“Don’t worry about me, but what happened? Who the fuck was that guy? Did you know him?”

Shame floods through me. “Yes, his name is Walker.”

“Wait, Walker as in your ex?”

I look up at him, confused. “You know who he is?”

“Well, yeah when we first met I wanted to know everything about you, so when I looked up your address.” He looks at me. “You know the night I showed up and you were in a towel?”

“Yeah,” I say, remembering like it was yesterday.

“Well, I read your file.”

“Kohen!”

“I know, I know, but I was a little obsessed. I just wanted to know everything I could, and let’s admit it- you weren’t going to tell me. Not at that point.” He’s right but still, that’s like a violation of my privacy.

“You’re insane.”

“Yes, you made me insane. Your scent scrambled my brain from the moment you passed me by on those stairs at my party.”

I give him a weak smile. I’ve never heard this version of how we met. I only know I can’t remember because I was drunk as fuck. Cora filled me in with what she knew.

“Anyway, I read about him. He’s smaller than he looks on his socials.”

“Yeah, he used to play football and was the star quarterback. I haven’t checked up on his socials since I left that fucked up town.”

“What did he say?”

I was afraid he would ask. “Huh?”

“Don’t play dumb, Alex, I need to know. He said for you to remember what he said, what did he say?”

I gulp, worried about what will happen if I tell him. “He said to tell you that you are on borrowed time, that he is coming for me because I will always belong to him.” Tears stream down my face because I know it’s true. He will come for me.

“That motherfucker.” The anger in his voice is palpable.

“Crystal is his ex, too. That’s who he cheated on me with and she said he is coming to Texas State.”

“Don’t cry, angel, he isn’t going to do shit. I will talk to my aunt and he will not be accepted. I can promise that, I’m going to keep you safe and when I’m not there, Levi will be. He isn’t going to ever touch you again. I’ll make sure of it.’
