The girls climb in the car and he shuts the door. “Thanks, brother. I’ve never had anyone stand up for me like that. Well, except for Alex, but I appreciate and respect that.”

“You don’t have to thank me, Levi. I know you would do the same for me,” I say and he pats me on the shoulder.

“Yeah, man. I would.”

Then we climb into the car and head to the rental house to get ready for dinner.

Chapter 43

Alex

Wespenttheafternoongetting ready for dinner. Kohen called to edit the reservation so that Cora and Levi could come with us. I don’t know how his dad will feel about it but I don’t think he cares anymore. Kohen is stepping out of the shadow his dad cast for him and making his own way. It’s sexy seeing him own his power. The same power his father wanted to suppress, fearing that Kohen would surpass him, and he has.

The dress code at this stupid place is cocktail attire so we are dressed to impress. Cora is wearing a light pink satin dress with gold strappy pumps, and her hair is curled into big elegant classy waves. Levi looks handsome in a simple white button-up shirt, pressed Wrangler jeans, and shiny cowboy boots that match his belt. My favorite part of his outfit is the black cowboy hat. Kohen had them move their stuff over here so we could all stay together since Cora came after all. Just doesn’t make sense to stay in separate places.

Kohen and I are matching in our signature shade- black. My dress is a bit longer than I would normally wear but it has two slits that extend mid-thigh and it’s backless. Finished off with gold jewelry and black velvet pumps that Kohen surprised me with. Kohen is wearing a black button-up shirt with black slacks and a Gucci belt. Simple but drop-dead fucking sexy.

I would rather stay home and rip his clothes off, fucking all night, but he says he has to entertain his father this one last time. Then he is going to cut him off for good. Good riddance.

I sit at the vanity in our bedroom and apply the last bits of makeup before we leave. I swipe the maroon lipstick across my lips, puckering them to perfection, then I place highlighter on my cheeks and temples, making sure that I can blind someone in the right light.

“Can I have some?” Cora asks.

“Of course. Omg, you never wear highlight,” I tease.

“I know but I want to look pretty tonight and to try something different,” she says, blushing.

“Can I please put some blush on you too?” I beg.

“Yes. Do your magic.”

A giddy feeling overtakes me. Cora has never let me do her makeup before since we have such different tastes, but it’s not like I’m going to put my kind of makeup on her face.

“Yay,” I squeal. “I am so excited. I promise I won’t overdo it. It will be very Cora. Now close your eyes,” I command.

I go to work, placing a baby pink blush on her pale cheeks, and a bit of bronzer to give her some dimension. I blend it out and then put a small bit of highlight on her tiny cheekbones and temples. I also put some on her nose. She has the cutest nose.

“Okay, open your eyes.” She listens and her long lashes flutter open. Her gaze is wide but she doesn’t say anything. “I went light, and I did add some bronzer but if you don’t…”

“Hush!” she says and I stop talking. “I was taking it in, I freaking love it,” she exclaims. “You made me look so beautiful.”

I place my chin on her shoulder. “No, best friend, you are beautiful all on your own. I just enhanced the brightness.”

“The car is here,” Kohen shouts up to us from downstairs.

“Coming,” I yell back. “Just have to put on perfume.” I grab my favorite Ariana perfume and spritz it on. Kohen loves it when I wear it.

“Can I have some?” Cora asks.

“Cora, you don’t even have to ask but grab the other one in the square bottle. I think that one will be perfect for you,” I say. “Actually, keep it.”

I wink and she smiles. “Thank you.”

“Of course, now let’s go.”

The restaurant we pull up to is massive. La Belle Vie is the name displayed in gold cursive on the side of the building. We pull up and the valet opens the doors for us, grabbing our hand and escorting us to the sidewalk, waiting until Levi and Kohen take us from them.

They release our hand with a bow, and I raise an eyebrow at them.
