“Well, no, not exactly. She has lived a rather rough life, yet she perseveres despite every circumstance and obstacle that has been thrown her way.”

“A fighter then, a survivor. That’s commendable,” he stated.

“She is much more than a survivor father; she thrives in every setting she’s been placed in. She attends school with me and is already familiar with the knight’s ways. So, she is no stranger to our commands.”

“Very well, I will support this request.”

“Thank you, father. I won’t make you regret this.”

“You are welcome, Derek. I trust your leadership, son, and your word. I have raised you to know what is best for you.”

“Thank you for your respect, Father.”

“Goodnight, son; I will have your mother handle all the details. See you at the altar on the night of the morning star. God himself will bless this union”.

“Goodnight, Father, and yes, that was my intention. This woman is special, and I know our love is unique.” The line went dead, so I shoved my phone in my pocket. I admit, I was not expecting it to be that easy, so maybe this is meant to be now, only if I could get my little troublemaker to see.

My phone pings with a text,

Ryder: Congratulations. Mom just told me I can’t wait for my own claim from Krista.

Me: I can’t wait for it either, brother. You will have her.

Ryder: fingers crossed.

Me: Nah, bro, pray and PREY, lol

Ryder: You’re right!

Me: night.

Ryder: I’m just heading out. I gotta go keep an eye on our girls since you ain’t.

Me: I have to give her crazy ass space, she isn’t like other girls.

Ryder: you’re right again.

Ryder: I’ll let you know if you need to come kill a motherfucker.

Me: thanks, little brother

Ryder: always

Chapter 11

Britt

My head was throbbing. It felt as if an anvil fell on my head. It also crushed my hopes and dreams of dance rehearsal today. What the hell did I drink that had me this hungover? I was never hungover. I didn’t even have more than two drinks. I groaned, turning over and seeing a coffee and some Tylenol on my nightstand. Krista was a saint. The light filling the room felt like hellfire to my eyes. I shut them briefly, pulling the blanket over my head to snuff some of the brightness out. I grabbed the Tylenol and swallowed it without water, needing this headache to disappear quickly. Pain made for one angry little Britt, and trust me, no one wanted that. I heard a shuffle on the floor next to my bed, and army crawled over the edge to see precious little Krista asleep there. “What the hell?” if she was passed out on a makeshift bed on my floor, then who set up this hangover station? Where was my phone? I felt around for it and came up empty-handed. It was then that the red flags were raised. My hangover had me groggy and slow, which was precisely why I didn’t drink more than two drinks. I sat up, and chills washed over my body at the sight of Derek in my doorway.

“I could have killed you,” I whisper yelled. I didn’t want to wake my best friend up.

“Right!” replied.

“You couldn’t even walk when Ryder brought y’all home.”

“What now?” I asked

“Yeah, he called me around two am saying he went to the restroom and saw you two with the bartender but that he had never seen either of you that drunk.
