A plastic card and a bunch of pieces of dark brown hair fell out. I glanced at the card—a driver’s license. I didn’t even have to see the name or photo on the license to know whose hair it was, but checking it confirmed it.
Rosalie Wells.
My girl.
And if the Wayward Suns had left a message like this, it meant they had to have had her in their possession. She hadn’t messaged me because she was taken, not because she was pissed at me. I grabbed the license and some of the hair and stormed out of the office.
“President! DAMIEN! We have an issue!” I kept shouting her name until I walked into the main room, and she broke awayfrom her conversation with a couple of members at the bar and came over to me.
“Slow down, Kordell. What’s the issue?” she asked, her look full of concern as she saw my face.
I bet it was a sight to see right now because I was pissed. And worried. The Suns had made more than a few girls disappear before.
Why did they go after Rosalie? How did they know we were even together? Did they have someone staking out the place when we had the celebration? Where the fuck would they have been hiding?! There aren’t many vantage points that could see into our compound.
I reached out and dropped the opened envelope, hair, and license onto the bar next to us. She looked over and grabbed the license, and then her fingers traced the patch on the envelope.
“Oh fuck,” she growled as she looked at them. “When?”
She turned toward me. I could see the other members in the room all focused on us right now.
“I don’t know. Wilder brought the envelope to me a couple of hours ago. I just now opened it,” I snapped.
Fuck, I should have opened it right then and there when he brought it to me. Every hour counted right now in figuring out what the fuck we were going to do about this.
“Road Captain!” Damien shouted, and a few moments later, he poked his head around the garage entrance.
“You hollered, Prez?” He looked between us, and the smile on his face diminished. “What’s wrong? Why do you two look like someone died?”
Damien grabbed the license and walked over to him. Shaking it at his face. “Where exactly was the envelope you gave to Kordell when you found it?” she demanded.
He looked confused for a moment before nodding fast. “Umm, it was taped to the front door. Why? What is that? Was that what was in it?”
He looked nervous, and, shit, I knew how intimidating Damien could be when she was livid. I didn’t blame him for being nervous. Even if her fury wasn't directed at him.
“Fuck! So, they were on our front doorstep, and no one fucking saw them?!”
She turned around, looking at all the members in the room, and they all shook their heads.
She slammed her fist down on the bar. “Unacceptable! This is sloppy work! Get your shit together, or next time, our throats might be slit when we're all asleep!” She marched back over to me. “I don’t know what we can do but wait. I could send a messenger over to their territory, but I don’t have any faith they will return alive.”
I nodded. That messenger would become the message more than likely. But I didn’t know what to do.
Suddenly, there was commotion outside. We could hear our guys yelling. Shit, maybe they had sent a messenger to us already. But when we rushed to the door and flung it open, I never expected to seethemstanding outside.
Her fucking parents.
CHAPTER 23
ROSE
THE NIGHT BEFORE
Tonight was such a neededbreak from all the work Kayden and I had been dealing with these past couple of months. Our family had been put through more than its fair share in the past year. From Rosalie going through her ordeal with her last boyfriend, AJ, to finding out she had gone from him to a guy who ran with a biker gang and keeping an eye on them. And then Jayden going through hell. I was still worried about him, but Kayden had told me to give him some space and he would come around, which he always did. But this time, I wasn’t so sure. I sighed, and Kayden looked over at me from the driver’s seat.
“Rose, baby, you’re worrying about things again,” he said as he rubbed my thigh comfortingly.
I looked over at him and gave him a weary smile. “I know, babe. I’m sorry. Tonight is supposed to be about us relaxing, and here I am, ruining it.”
