“Take your time. We don’t know how long she will be in labor,” Easton says calmly.
How the hell can he be so calm when his girlfriend is in labor? “I am going to be an aunt and I wanna be there when that baby is born!”
Easton chuckles into the phone. “Alright, alright. Harper wants you here too.”
I slide my feet into flip flops and rush out of my room, “I am on my way. Sort of.”
“We will see you when you get here.”
I hang up the phone as I fly down the stairs. I turn the corner that heads toward Summer and Brett’s room when I run into Brooks. He grips my shoulders to keep me from falling into the wall.
“Whoa speed demon, what’s got you in a rush?”
I haven’t spoken to Brooks in two days since the somewhat personal moment happened. And I really have no intention of speaking to him either. “Nothing,” I blurt.
“Alright. Well, slow it down. You might hurt someone.”
I push past him, annoyed.
“You lookin’ for Summer?”
I knock on her bedroom door ignoring Brooks.
“She ain’t home.”
I groan and turn around. “How do you know?”
“Because I just finished painting the walls in the nursery for her while her and my brother went shopping.”
“Fuck.” How the hell was I supposed to get to the damn hospital now? I pull out my phone hoping there is someone in there that can drive me to the hospital.
“Do you need help with something?” Brooks asks as he leans against the wall crossing his arms over his surprisingly t-shirt covered chest.
“Not really,” I say as I walk past him and into the sitting area.
“Really? Because you kinda seemed like you needed something with the way you blew past me.”
I ignore him as I look at my phone and see a text from Ivy telling me to get my ass to the hospital. If she is there, she won’t come to get me and that means that Anna May is at the diner. I glance at the time. The diner closes in an hour, but that means it will still be at least three hours until I can get to the hospital.
“Are you busy?” I ask Brooks, even though he is the last person I want to ask for a favor.
“It depends.”
“Ugh, seriously can you just give me a straight answer?”
He pushes off the wall and moves in front of me. “What do you need?” he asks reluctantly.
“A ride to the hospital.”
“In Towson?”
I nod. At least Towson isn’t as far from here as White Creek is.
“Is Harper having her baby?”
I nod. “I really want to be there.”
He offers me his hand. “Not a problem. I wouldn’t want to miss my nephews’ births either.”
