“What brings you to my office?” She leaned forward with her hands clasped on top of her desk.

His expression brightened. “I wanted to talk to you about a new recruitment push for customer service reps for our call center. We had an HR consultant come out, and we are thinking about building a remote employee platform.”

“How are we definingremote?”

“The employees will work one hundred percent from home.”

She cocked her head to the side and said, “Interesting.”

“This will cut down on overhead costs. We would have to put together training and ship the reps all their equipment so that they can function transparently, but Jabarie and I think this is the wave of the future for us.”

Bianca squealed. “That’s an awesome idea! How can I help?”

“We need you to start putting together the marketing we need for recruiting. We want to advertise and recruit globally.”

“Got it,” Bianca replied and was excited about having something new to do.

“Excellent. We also have found a training specialty company to design a virtual customer service training program. I’m hoping you can work with them on putting the training modules together.”

“Sounds exciting.” Bianca started her career in customer services taking hotel reservations and had years of experience. With globalization and the advancement of information technology, everything was now handled electronically. With a customized registration system that belonged exclusively to the hotel, they could employ virtual customer service representatives from across the country.

“We need to design online training and eliminate the expense of having reps travel onsite for training.”

“This is a big change.” She leaned back in her executive chair with a wide grin.

Nodding, Jace replied, “It is, but we have to keep moving forward if we want to stay globally competitive.” The hotel chain had undergone some major financial hits the last few years and was back in the green, but that meant keeping their eyes and ears on what was happening in the world to keep them at the top of their game.

“Our IT team is working on getting everything mapped and in place,” he announced proudly. “Jabarie, of course, has the financial officer and her team working on costs, but I think we are on to something. We may be able to double the call center in the next year.”

Bianca inched closer. “What will this mean for the customer service reps that we have here onsite?”

Jace’s smile stretched wider. “I’m glad you asked that. We will continue to keep them employed. Maybe even move them to other areas. Jabarie mentioned promoting some employees to supervisors or team leads who would listen in on calls and mentor new representatives.”

“I love it,” Bianca declared, clapping her hands together.

“I was hoping you’d say that.” Jace looked pleased. “Have you talked to the prosecuting attorney yet?”

His question caused the grin to slip from her lips. “Not yet, but I have an appointment to go into the office next week.” While in the hospital, detectives had come by to get her statement.

“So does Sheyna, but don’t worry. They are going to get Troy for what he did to you two,” he said encouragingly.

Calmly, Bianca drew a breath and folded her arms against her breasts before responding. “I am more concerned about Sheyna.”

Jace’s jaw tensed as he nodded in agreement.

When Mary knocked on the door holding her coffee and a cheese Danish, Jace rose and returned to the human resources section of the building at the end of the hall.

While Bianca chewed, she sifted through a stack of mail in her in-box and noticed one that her assistant hadn’t opened. The manila envelope was labeledprivate. She reached for a letter opener and ripped it opened, and when she pulled out a yellow sticky note, her heart hit her tonsils.

“This is how serious I am.”

Attached to it was a check for ten thousand dollars. It was the exact amount Collin had demanded to stay out of Sierra’s life. Now he was willing to pay his way back into her life. Bianca swallowed down a curse with a sip of coffee and stared at the cashier’s check. Dammit. Collin would become an issue if she didn’t tell London soon.

She reached over for her cell phone to call Debra when her eyes traveled back to the doorway and found her mother standing there. “Mother,” she said as she lowered the phone back on her desk.

“Hello Bianca,” she replied with that stern look in her eyes. “I figured since my only daughter won’t return my calls, I would come to her office and see how she’s doing.”

“My apologies, Mother. There has been so much going on I haven’t had a chance to call you back.”
