Blade grumbled something I couldn’t hear before saying, “I was going to ask you in private. I didn’t want to put you on the spot.” Blade flashed me an annoyed look, and I just smiled back at him.
“What is it?” Ryder asked, hesitantly.
“The officers were talking earlier about approaching you to prospect,” Blade said.
Ryder immediately sat up in his chair. Looking back and forth between Blade and me, then at Gunner.
“Really?” he asked, surprised. “I always assumed, since you hadn’t asked, I wouldn’t be a good fit.”
He certainly sounded interested. When he found out why no one had asked him, Blade would be up shit creek. And Ryder wouldn’t be giving him a paddle.
I sat there, grinning.
“What are you grinning at, Jack?” Sammy whispered.
“Watch,” I told her.
I loved Blade. He was my best friend. My brother beyond the cut that we shared. But he had this coming.
“Blade wouldn’t let us,” Gunner added. “He didn’t want you getting too close and discovering who he was.”
“What the fuck, man?” Ryder bellowed, sitting forward and glaring at Blade.
“Ryder, I’m sorry. I made a mistake.”
“Fuck your mistakes.” He stood from his chair and walked toward the parking lot.
Shit. That didn’t go quite how I planned it.
“Thanks a lot, asshole.” Blade stood up, sliding Beck off his lap, and followed Ryder.
“Fuck, I didn’t think he would get upset. I figured we would all give Blade some shit.” I watched as Blade jogged across the yard.
“Ryder hasn’t quite gotten over everything yet,” Beck said, settling back into her chair.
“I thought they were good,” I asked. “Blade hasn’t said anything.”
“No, Ryder is still pissed at him for wasting the last five years. He told me he wanted to join the club when it first set up here, but Tammi wouldn’t let him. Then, when he realized Micah was here and hadn’t told him who he was, or made any effort to see him, well, Ryder felt like he’d lost his best friend again.”
“Fuck, and I made it worse.”
Yes, folks, there is a reason they call me Jackass.
Chapter Seventeen
Samantha
The weekend was over. It was time to get back to work. Joellen had been incredibly understanding when I asked for some time off. My life turned upside down the day Jack saw Charlie and me in Walmart, and since then it had been a whirlwind.
Today was my first day back at work. Charlie was staying at the clubhouse with Jack, and I would have a brother in The Diner with me at all times.
I guess I was finally going to experience what the other ladies told Beck about at brunch all those months ago. I would now have a brother following me around. The difference was, he would follow me wherever I went. Not just hide out in the shadows.
Standing in the bathroom in just my bra and panties, I attempted to put my makeup on. Strong arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me back against a hard chest. His lips found my neck, and I closed my eyes.
“Jack, I have to go to work,” I moaned.
“You don’thaveto go to work. I told you I can support you and Charlie.” His hand moved lower to cover the spot where Charlie grew. “And any more babies we have.” He pulled me back against his hips, and I felt his cock harden.
