Ranger wore cargo pants and a black t-shirt, looking deliciously simple in that bad-boy-going-to-raid-a-tomb sort of way. I didn’t realize I was a cargo pants type of girl, but… damn.
I picked my jaw off the ground as Trenton growled beside me, widening his stance.
“We should go.”
I think Trenton was talking to me, but I was basically frozen to the spot, still staring at Ranger when the breeze changed direction and surrounded me with his piney sawdust scent.
Heaven.
He smelled so good.
“Aspen,” Trenton spoke my name in warning.
Ranger’s lips quirked to the side. “Looks like she wants to stay here.”
That had me blinking and taking another step back. Thankfully Ranger was still holding to my elbow so I didn’t trip down the cliff.
I really needed to get it together.
It was his scent’s fault. Making me all lightheaded. I gave an awkward little laugh and stepped in the right direction, away from the edge.
“We should all probably get going,” I said.
“Yeah,” Trenton barked at Ranger. I glared at him, wondering if he had a death wish.
Ranger didn’t pay Trenton any attention though. I don’t know how, but he made it seem like I was the only one in the world when he looked at me with that intensity burning in his eyes.
“Do you think you’ll have a rose for me?” His thumb brushed against the material of my sweater and I realized he still hadn’t let go of my arm.
“Maybe.” I bit down on my lip, smiling.
My wolf purred louder in response.
“Seriously?”Trenton growled through our pack link.“What happened to staying away from the mafia guy?”
I wasn’t sure.
It was too hard to look away when I was trapped under this spell.
Ranger reached out and tugged on the end of my braid. “See you at the finish line.”
Yep. That did it.
I let out a little gasp as Ranger turned and walked away. My beast was still panting and my skin was burning up even as the wind continued to whip around us. Ranger’s perfect ass filled out the cargo pants as he jogged over to the Alpha line up.
Trenton stayed by my side a moment longer.
“What?” I snapped, catching him looking at me.
“Goddess, Aspen.” He shook his head. “Could you be anymore pathetic?”

“Welcome to the first challenge our Alphas will face on the quest to win the Lunas hearts.” Jay Renfro stood on the cliff overlooking the ravine and mud pit below. The audio equipment they were using must have been magic because I could barely hear Jay over the wind and I had shifter hearing.
“Today’s event is a friendly competition where the Alphas are hoping to win a rose of approval from our lovely ladies,” Jay explained. “Each Luna can give out as many roses as they’d like once the Alphas are scored at the finish line.”
“Remember, it’s not a race.”I stood on my tiptoes trying to get a good look and mind-linking Trenton as they lined up in the ravine below. I’d have to skirt the other side of the tents to check out the next obstacles in the challenge. It wasn’t like the Luna Trials wherewe knew what was coming. With the Alpha Games, the show pulled out the shock factors.
