Especially since everything was going according to plan.

I was freaking out. Hyperventilating.

This wasnotthe plan.

These people were crazy. Even Ivan whose bald head was lowered as he typed away on Ranger’s laptop was a part of the traitorous psychopath group. Things like this didn’t happen in real life. I couldn’t even begin to wrap my brain around it.

Fallon sat casually, filing her nails, as the coffee in front of her grew cold. She didn’t have a care in the world. Because saving/kidnapping people from their packs and promising them some fairy tale life was all a normal part of a breakfast conversation for the McCaws apparently.

He's our fated mate.My wolf sighed again.

Forgive me for being the slightest bit cautious,I bit back, delusional and arguing with myself.

I needed to focus on the facts. That was hard to do in here with Ranger’s delicious smell everywhere. This wasn’t really a kidnapping. I knew where I was. In the penthouse suite which was basically another level of classism for me. But I was still in a cage. Imprisoned against my will.

It was a fancy cell though. Smelled amazing.

We could order room service.

The logical part of my brain was begging me to think that we were possibly heading to Stockholmsyndrome territory. Groaning, I put my face in my hands.

He’d bought me clothes. Paid Jesse’s salary. Made sure Ivan was always around. Threatened Alpha Derek for daring to blackmail me. And Ranger was moving my papa off Nuva Pack lands now.

I may have been kidnapped, but I couldn’t argue that the results were pretty sweet.

Enjoy it.She started grooming her paws.

I peeked through my fingers. “I need my phone.”

“Ivan.” Fallon looked at the big guy. “Can you call Beau back to the resort and have him swing by her room?”

“No. I don’t want a stranger going through my things.” I stood slowly, intending to stand my ground. “And I need a shower. A change of clothes. I want to brush my teeth.”

“We have stuff for you here.” She tried to sound inviting, but I had a feeling that wasn’t a normal vibe for her. “Ranger gave orders that you can’t leave this room.”

That was the part I had a problem with.

If we were really destined to be together, then he was going to have to learn I wouldn’t roll over blindly and submit. “Ranger isn’t my Alpha. Not yet. And he doesn’t control me.”

“You said you didn’t get high willingly,” Fallon argued. “That’s two attempts on your life. Do you want to be TSTL and risk it a third time?”

“Technically, it wasn’t enough to kill her,” Ivan spoke as he continued messing around on the laptop. Fallon growled.

He looked up. “Sorry.”

I was starting to like him again. “Ivan wasn’t there last night. And if you’d have told me I was walking around with all this protection, I would’ve made sure to utilize it.”

That was another thing grinding my gears. It felt belittling to leave me in the dark. If we were equals–mates–I didn’t appreciate being treated like I couldn’t make my own decisions.

“Use it now, by staying in the room.” Fallon shrugged. She had a point.

I sucked my tongue over my teeth, feeling the grime from last night. “I’m going to get my things.”

“I’ll go with her.” Ivan stood. He was back on my good list. I knew I couldn’t stay mad at him for long.
