Looking forward to our dinner almost as much as a date, I was excited when our meeting time rolled around. Frankly, I was also a little nervous. If it wasn’t for Nero and the fact that Quin wasn’t my physical type, I would think I was developing a crush on him.

“This is a nice place,” I told him when we arrived at the Italian restaurant.

“It was one of the first places I went with Lou… and Cage.”

“I don’t think I’ve met Lou.”

“He’s my roommate.”

“I know. Nero’s mentioned him.”

“Really?” Quin asked confused.

“He came up in a conversation about Titus.”

“About Titus?”

“Yeah. Aren’t they dating or something?”

Quin laughed. “Why would you think they’re dating?”

His reaction surprised me. “I don’t know. Maybe it was something that Nero said.”

“I think they’re just friends.”

“Okay. I would still like to meet him sometime.”

“Maybe I’ll book a slot in his schedule for a game night. That is, as long as you and Nero are free.”

“Sounds good. By the way, have you heard from Nero?”

“From Nero? Not really. He doesn’t reach out to me like that.”

“Oh! He’s not a texter?”

“He’s pretty good at replying. But, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a text from him asking me how I was doing.”

“That sounds like him,” I said feeling relieved.

“By the way, how are things going with him? You two seemed snuggly last weekend. You know, before he shifted and ran into the woods.”

“I thought things were going great. But then his mom said what she did and now he’s M.I.A.”

“I wouldn’t worry about it. He can get like that. If you give him a few days, I’m sure things will settle,” Quin said as he pulled his phone out of his pocket.

Flicking the screen on, Quin squinted as he read a text. With a few more swipes I heard the audio from a video. As soon as someone woohoo’d he lowered the volume. Continuing to watch, Quin looked more uncomfortable.

“What is it?”

Quin opened his mouth to speak then stopped and watched the video to the end.

“You’re freakin’ me out a little, Quin. What’s going on?”

Quin looked up at me rattled.

Cage just sent me a video that his old teammate posted on one of his socials.

“What was the video?”
