Nero sulked for the rest of the night while Kendall gloated for his entire team. Lou wasn’t much better, but he at least gave me a hug claiming that he felt sad for us. I took it, enjoying feeling his body on mine.

For the rest of the night, Lou didn’t pass up an opportunity to touch me. Every time he did, I was turned on more. Could Nero have been right? Did Sey get off on the rush of new love and grand gestures? Could he and Lou already be drifting apart?

We played games and drank until late into the night. It felt great to pretend like nothing had changed between Lou and me, but I knew things had. And when I could no longer shake the thought of joining him in his bed, I announced I was headed home.

“What are you talking about?” Nero replied. “We haven’t even gone for our run yet.”

“Yeah, are you sure you want to go? The night’s still young,” Lou said looking at me like he had when we were naked at the lake.

I stared at him needing to kiss him again.

“I should go before I do something bad,” I told the group.

“Like what?” Lou asked me with a flirtatious smile.

What was he doing? He had to know what I was referring to. Whether his fiancé was a love bomber or not, he was still engaged. A good guy respected that.

I laughed and said, “I’m gonna go.”

“I’ll walk you out,” Lou said taking my hand.

I looked around. Everyone was staring. They all knew the situation between us. More importantly, Lou knew it. So when we got to my truck and he placed his chest inches from mine and looked up into my eyes, I needed to know what was going on.

“What are you doing, Lou?”

“Walking you to your car,” he said with a smile.

“I’m trying to be good here,” I said feeling my resistance slipping away.

“What if I don’t want you to be good?”

“Lou, you’re engaged.”

“Am I?”

“Yes!”

“Then you should tell Sey because it would probably be news to him.”

I chuckled uncomfortably. Nero might have been right. If he was, I didn’t know what to do about it. What was my responsibility to Lou as someone who cared about him?

“I should go,” I said peeling myself off of him. “I think you had a few too many drinks.”

As I opened my truck door,

“He and I haven’t done what we have,” Lou said desperately.

I froze. “What?”

“You know what we did on the beach?”

“Yeah.”

“He and I haven’t gotten that far,” he said looking down.

He was telling me that they hadn’t had sex. He had always said he was waiting for the right guy. But after breaking his rule with me, I had assumed that he would go even further with his fiancé.

“Why not?”
