“You’re not dimwitted.”

“Oh, please. You should have seen me in the hospital.Could you be pregnant? No,I said. There’s no way I could be pregnant. And then I stood there wondering when my last period was. Luna, I am the stupid woman in the books who doesn’t even realize she didn’t have her period for two months!”

She winced, trying to hold back the unbelievable look on her face.

“See! Even you can’t believe how stupid I’ve been!”

She grabbed my flailing arms and held them at my side. “Okay, apart from the…indescribably stupid way that you happened to forget you were a woman and had a period, it doesn’t change the fact that you’re pregnant. Whether or not you forgot is pointless because you still would have been with child.”

“With child,” I laughed.

“Hey, it’s a thing!”

“It is. I am with child. Pregnant. The moron who?—”

“Stop it,” she scolded, her face serious as she held me tight. “What’s done is done. And whether or not Edu will face the fact that he had as much part in this as you, you still have to tell him. And the sooner, the better. The last thing I need is to work with you for months on end as you try to figure out how to tell him you’re pregnant while your body grows to the size of a whale.”

“Do you really think I’ll get that big?” I asked, tears filling my eyes.

It hit me then how ridiculous it was that I was in tears over the prospect of becoming so large I would be compared to the mammal when I should really be concerned with the fact that I was pregnant. But somehow, actually being pregnant didn’t freak me out nearly as much as telling Edu.

I could handle having a baby. I knew it would be hard on my own. But the thought of telling him and facing his wrath was something I couldn’t quite wrap my brain around. He was going to be furious and then I would never see him again.

He never wanted this life, and as soon as I told him I was pregnant, he would be gone from mine.

EDU

Two miserable weekspassed with only the company of my teammates and one whiny princess who didn’t like being followed around. Thankfully, her father didn’t like hearing her complain and discharged us from his service.

Which was really for the best because using my hand in place of Harper was making me a grumpy bastard.

Brock slapped me on the shoulder. “Look at you. You made it through this whole job without breaking either of Harper’s rules.”

I glared at the man who used to be my best friend. Now, he was hovering dangerously close to an enemy. “You’re so funny.”

“What’s funny is that you’re falling for the woman who you thought was a stalker.”

“I never said I was falling for her.” Though I was pretty sure I told Lock I was when I was delirious from my stab wound.

“You don’t need to say it. It’s written all over your face. You didn’t want to leave her. You’ve been grumpy the whole trip, and now that we’ve been let go, you’re excited to get home. To her.”

“To her pussy,” I corrected.

“Still not willing to admit that she means something to you?” he chuckled.

“Alright, let’s say she does mean something to me. You’re blowing it way out of proportion. Yes, it’s more than fucking, but?—”

“It’ll never be more,” he finished for me, shaking his head sadly like I was a broken record. “You really need a new line.”

“What I need is to get home and bury my cock?—”

“Seriously,” he cut me off. “Not everyone needs to know your plans for your dick later tonight.”

I grinned at him, happy I could still throw him off kilter from time to time. “She doesn’t know I’m coming home tonight, so this should be a night I’ll never forget.”

“Thank fuck I don’t have to be there for the reunion. I still can’t believe she forgave you for the stunt you pulled after the last job.”
