I barely got the words out before his lips crashed into mine and his arms wrapped around me, pulling me tight to his body. I felt his splayed hands on my back sliding down my spine, gripping my hips as he pulled me even closer. His fingers dug into my sides as he thrust his hard length against me, showing me what this was doing to him.

I gasped, sliding my fingers through his hair, trying to memorize the feel of his lips against mine. But all too quickly, he pulled away, breathing hard. “I have to go.”

I nodded, trying to pull myself together as he kissed me one last time and walked away. My gaze followed him all the way to his truck and still, as he pulled out of the parking lot, raising his hand out the window to say goodbye. I knew I was grinning like a fool, but I didn’t care. That man was going to be the death of me.

Riley sighed heavily. “You’re going to be insufferable until he comes home.”

“Probably.”

“Well, at least with him gone, you won’t be late for any more movies.”

I turned and rolled my eyes at her. “Yes, that’s what’s important.”

She held up her hands. “Hey, you’re the one who was moping around all morning. I was just trying to get you out of your head.”

“Thank you, Riley,” I said with a touch of sarcasm.

“You’re welcome. Now, since we missed the beginning of the movie, what are we going to do now?”

I didn’t really care. I doubted I could think of anything other than Kavanaugh for the next hour.

“Great. You have that doe-eyed look on your face,” she grumbled.

“I do not.”

“Do so.”

“Do not!”

“Do so,” she argued as we headed back to the cars. “And if I have to hear about how wonderful he is all night, I’m gonna puke. Don’t think I’m gonna be that sister who?—”

I stopped listening as I pulled the car door open. She would rant all the way home even though she was in another vehicle. And when we got home, I’d have to hear about how we missed the movie for the rest of the day. But it was completely worth it to feel Kavanaugh’s lips on mine again. She was going to have to get used to it because I knew Kavanaugh wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

KAVANAUGH

The weeks passedin a blur of town hall meetings, advisory committees, and endless hours on the road with the senator. Each week reminded me how little I liked the man and how desperately I wanted to return to Isla. My only consolation was that I wasn’t alone. I had Eli and Red with me, even if they did mock me more than anything. Their jobs were moot since there was no threat, and even if there were, I was completely capable of taking care of myself.

I made it home just two weekends out of three, but I talked to her every day, even if it was only a text at night to tell her how much I missed her. Although, last night had been a particularly difficult night as our texting grew a little heated, ending with me fisting my dick as I imagined her dirty mouth wrapped around my cock.

I flicked through the texts, reading them again just to remind myself why I was forcing myself through this meeting. Because at the end of it, I was flying home to her and burying myself inside her.

“Bradford,” the senator snapped, interrupting the dirty plans running through my head. “Something you want to share with us?”

If he thought he would embarrass me, he was sorely mistaken. I didn’t give a shit what he thought about me or what I was doing. “Not really.”

“Perhaps it can wait.”

I shoved my phone in my jacket pocket and spun in my chair to face him. “Actually, I think it’s waited long enough. And this meeting has droned on about an hour past when it needed to end.” I shoved out of my chair and buttoned my suit jacket, narrowing my eyes at him. “I have things to do.”

“We still have things to discuss.”

I turned and headed for the door, calling over my shoulder, “Send me the highlights.”

Red was slumped in the armchair, snoring loudly as his fist squished his face and Eli was trying to stick his hand in a glass of water. The things they did to each other on this job were bordering on childish, but what else were they supposed to do when their job was to protect a protection agent?

“Having fun?” I asked, smacking Red on the back of the head.
