“Have you seen Beck again since?” Coop asked.
“Not until last night. I mean,Ididn’t see him, but Willow did.”
“When?”
“She went to grab a Coke after our set finished and said she passed him on the way back. They made eye contact, and he took off.”
“Have you told the police about him?”
She nodded. “A lady cop stopped by earlier. I told her what happened.”
“Was her name Blunt?”
“Yeah, think so.”
“Can you think of anything else that might help us find Willow?”
“Not right now. Sorry.”
“You have a piece of paper and a pen?” Coop asked.
“Think so.”
She fumbled through an oversized hobo-style handbag and handed a napkin and a pen to Coop. “Will this do?”
He scribbled down his information and gave it to her. “Call me if you think of anything else.”
She took the napkin from him and stood there for a moment. “You know something? I think Beck said his last name is Slater.”
Gina glanced at her watch for the third time in five minutes.
“You keep looking at the time,” I said. “Is everything okay?”
“I don’t mean to be rude, but I need to get back to the hospital.”
“The hospital?”
She nodded. “My brother’s there.”
Her brother?
“Is Dean Watson your brother?” I asked.
“Yeah.”
No wonder she’d been crying.
Her entire world was falling apart.
“We were hoping to talk to him when he’s able to have visitors,” I said, “but since we’re not family, we weren’t sure whether they’d let us see him.”
Coop shot me an icy glare.
I ignored it.
Gina slung her bag over her shoulder, opened the door, and looked back. “You guys coming or what? I can get you in.”
