He ended the call, and I said, “What’s going on?”

“You remember the guy Gina told us about? Beck Slater?”

I nodded. “What about him?”

“She just saw him wandering around at the music festival.”

CHAPTER 10

“Where is he?” I asked.

Gina raised a finger and pointed to a tour bus two rows over. “See the black one with the white stripes along the side? I saw him walk inside of it.”

“How long ago?” I asked.

“Forty-five minutes?”

“Was he alone?”

She shook her head. “No, he was with Kendra.”

“Who’s Kendra?”

“Kendra Kennedy. She’s the lead singer of Kennedy Blues. That’s her tour bus.”

“Guess he’s moved on,” I said.

Gina nodded. “Bender talked to him earlier, and Beck told him he’s started dating Kendra, which I don’t get, but ... whatever. I told Bender about our experience with Beck, and he said not to worry about it. He’s known him for a while, and they’re friends. According to Bender, he’s harmless.”

I left Gina, walked to the other tour bus, and knocked on the door.

It opened, and a woman with flowers dotting her loose, brown, braided hair poked her head out and grinned at me. She was dressed in a long, sheer, flower-patterned robe with a red satin nightgown beneath.

“Are you Kendra?” I asked.

“Sure am. We’re doing shots. Care to join?”

“I ... no.”

She frowned and moved a hand to her hip. “Well, what can I do for you then?”

“I’m Sloane—”

“We know who you are, honey,” she said. “Beck talked to Bender. He figured you or your man would come around again sooner or later.”

“Myman?”

“The gentleman you were here with last time.”

“You saw us?”

She smacked me on the shoulder. “Don’t look so shocked. Everyone here knows what’s going on, and Gina sure is sweet, but she’s a talker.”

“She’s going through a lot right now.”

“We know. Happy to hear the good news about her brother. Now we just need Willow to be found and brought back home.”

Kendra stepped to the side, and I entered the bus. It looked a lot nicer than most of the others on the lot, and the walls were decorated with hundreds of photos. I leaned in, scanning a few, and then craned my head, trying to get a good look at the rest of her place.
