“Stanley Davidson.”

“How much money was he given?” I asked.

“I’m not sure. Willow’s dad met with him, and they worked out the details themselves. A couple of days later, Stanley called Willow and said he’d seen us play, listened to one of our demo’s, and was interested in arranging a small tour to start out. Then we’d go from there, depending on how we were received.”

“Did Willow ever figure out her father bankrolled the tour?”

Gina shook her head. “She didn’t, and I feel bad for telling Bender. I shouldn’t have. But I don’t feel bad about what I did. Her father may have funded this tour, but there’s real interest in us now.”

CHAPTER 12

I was on my way to the car when I heard a shuffling sound behind me. I turned. Kendra had replaced her robe with a red, slim-fitting dress, and she was speed-walking toward me.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“I ... I do have a heart,” she said.

I placed a hand on my hip and waited for the rest to spill out.

“I wasn’t honest about what I said before,” she said.

“Which part?”

“I did tell someone what I learned about Willow and her family’s money. I told Alex Marshall.”

“Who’s he?”

“A guy Beck works with at Goldstein and Associates. I didn’t say anything before because—”

“Beck works with him, and if you told me, that could cause a problem between the two of you.”

“Right.”

“You had no problem telling me Bender knew though.”

“He’s different,” she said.

“In what way?”

“Bender doesn’t have anything to do with Willow’s abduction.”

“How can you be sure?”

“I just am.”

“Do you think Alex might?”

“I don’t know. Maybe. Beck said Alex can be a bit of a firecracker sometimes, but he also says Alex is one of the hardest working guys in the office. He doesn’t think he’s capable of harming anyone.”

“How do I find Alex?” I asked.

“Goldstein and Associates has an office on Toulouse Street.”

“You wouldn’t happen to have a photo of Alex, would you?”

She shook her head. “I’m sure you could find some if you Googled his name.”

“What does he look like? Tall? Short? Slender? Muscular?”
