I blink back my haze of lust. Beautiful is hardly the word for a man about to cum. My cock is an angry red with veins popping. “My little bird, I’m a raging beast.” I even sound like an animal, the words grunted out as I try to remain focused.

She nips at her lip, working her hand even faster. “A beast? I’ve always wanted one of those.”

Something in her words triggers my orgasm. I want to be her beast. I want to fucking devour her.

But also…for the first time in my adult life, I want to keep her safe too. I roar as the cum shoots from my cock, splashing across her belly. It goes on and on, my body spasming until I finally wilt on top of her, my stomach pressing to her cum-covered belly, my lips finding hers.

The kiss isn’t sweet, it doesn’t coax, it claims. Which is ridiculous. A few hours ago, I promised to lie, cheat, or steal this woman out of her home. For all I know, Mason is right and she’s an agent of the enemy, here to seduce me and not the other way around.

She is the one who asked me to share the bed.

I shouldn’t want to claim her.

Then again, I just might be the man who is able to have his cake and eat it too.

Speaking of, I want to know how she tastes.

And I am not talking about her mouth.

I kiss down her jaw and over the tender flesh of her neck, even as she turns for me, exposing more of her sweet skin. I’d like to kiss every inch of her on my way to my final destination when I look over to see my phone is still ringing. Fuck. How long has it been going off?

I don’t want to jump up to answer. First. I like holding Maddie. It’s an oddity for me, but even after the orgasm, she feels so good, her skin sliding against mine. If anything, I don’t feel satiated.

I want more.

But I need to pick up the phone. This could be about Luke.

“I’m sorry, sweetheart,” I murmur as I kiss her neck and reach for the phone, as I reluctantly climb from the bed.

“Hello?” I’m walking away when the voice on the other end of the line stops me in my tracks.

A voice I don’t recognize rages in my ear, “What the fuck, man?”

CHAPTER TEN

Maddie

“Who the fuck is this?”Roman barks into his phone.

The hard tone of his voice stops me first. It’s a side of Roman I haven’t seen. Should I be scared?

I hear an indistinct male voice coming through the speaker piece of the iPhone. He turns around and comes back to the bed, holding out his phone as he presses a button. “Maddie, you need to hear this.”

“What is it?” I ask, a different fear fluttering in my chest. What does this call have to do with me?

“Is this Miss Reid?” The caller asks.

“Yes.”

“I’m from the LV Veterinary School and Clinic. We’ve been asked to take over the care of your animals.”

“Yes?”

“There is a Lucia Anderson here who is demanding confirmation that you wish us to remove the animals from the premises. She’s been blocking the removal for the last forty-five minutes.”

My mouth drops open. Lucia is there? It’s a Sunday and she is usually at the clinic Monday and Thursday afternoons to help me out unless there is an emergency. “Put her on the phone, please.”

Roman mutters something under his breath but it’s blocked by the grumbling of the tech. “Now I need to hand over my phone? What a train wreck.”
