“Want to join me in the back?” By the tone of her voice, I sense she has something fun planned, and I’m eager to discover what it is.
“Go on, get your cute self back there,” I tell her as I unbuckle my seatbelt.
She climbs over the seats, giving me a delightful view as she bends. I let out a low growl, getting out of the car just as Ev and Baine walk up, both impeccably dressed.
“What’s going on?” Ev asks.
“Ember and I are taking the backseat. You two can have the front.” I smirk, patting Ev on the back as I slide into the rear of the car, pulling Ember into my arms.
She laughs and snuggles into me as I shut the door, waiting for the front doors to open. I can feel her heartbeat against my chest, and an overwhelming desire to know every little thing about her washes over me. As the front doors click shut, I look into her eyes and see a spark of mischief that makes me smile.
“So, what’s the plan?” I ask, knowing whatever it is, I’m fully on board.
Ember meets my gaze with a sly grin, whispering, “Just wait and see.” With that, the car pulls away, and she grabs my face, kissing me with fierce determination.

Hip-hop pulses through the car, the bass reverberating and sending vibrations coursing through my body. Koda pulls me onto his lap while Everest drives and Baine navigates, directing him where to go.

“Does that mean you’re coming back with us?”
“I don’t know yet, Ev,” I reply with a shrug, my gaze lingering on Koda’s eyes, noting the pained look within them.
He cups my face, brushing a strand of hair aside, and I can sense his anxiety over seeing our parents again; it’s been years since he was allowed to return home. But I’m here with him, and I hope he knows that.
“Are you okay?” I ask, my hands gliding up his chest, feeling the defined muscles beneath my palms.
“Yeah, just… I’m not looking forward to tonight. I want it to go perfectly,” he replies, his expression revealing his trepidation.
“What do you mean?” I inquire. “It’s New Year’s, my little Ember. I want to have a great night, not be yelled at or scolded for things I didn’t do.”
Leaning in, I kiss him deeply, twirling my tongue around his as my hand finds the back of his neck. He sneaks his hand under my dress, pushing his fingers against me, relishing the fact that I’m not wearing underwear.

“Lay back, Koda,” I urge, attempting to guide him onto his back in the limited space.
To my surprise, he manages to recline slightly, still supporting me atop him. “What are you doing?” he asks, bemusement coloring his tone.
“I thought you might be feeling a bit hungry,” I tease, turning around and aligning my body over his face.
“Is this what I think it is?” He wonders, anticipation subtly shaping his voice.
“What do you think it is?” I reply playfully, already knowing he’s aware.
