“Kiss me.” She grins.

I shake my head when she tries again. “No, Envy.”

“What do you mean, no? We just went on a date. This is normal.”

“That wasn’t a date, it … I was just trying to talk to you about what we’re going to do.”

She gestures to her stomach. “The baby decided for us. We’re going to be together.”

“We don’t have to be together to raise a child,” I point out.

Her brows crease. “Is this about that blonde bitch?” She sneers.

I nearly turn around and slam the door in her face. I won’t allow anyone to talk about Skyler that way, but I have to be careful. I don’t want Envy holding my child over my head … I need peace with her. “Look, Skyler isn’t a bitch, and I would really appreciate if you didn’t talk about her like that.”

“You’re pathetic. She doesn’t even remember you.” She moves closer.

“I’m going to get her back.” I shrug. It seems pointless to everyone else, but I will win her heart back. I’ll make her remember me.

Envy doesn’t stop; she brings her green nail to clutch her green strands. “Foster I’m having our baby,” she repeats in a sweet tone, as if the repetition will make me be with her.

“Yeah, that doesn’t mean we have to be together.”

I don’t want this.

“So, am I coming inside or what?”

How can she not take a hint? “You can come chill with everyone, but not in my room.”

She rolls her eyes. “Whatever. I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow morning anyway.” She holds out her palm.

“What?”

She rolls her eyes. “It’s a hundred dollars, and I paid for the last one.”

I tip my head back a little bit. Maybe I need to get another job. “I don’t have any cash on me. Let me go to the ATM.” I’ve been funneling every dime I make to help Soph. Grams is racking up the last of her credit line paying for these surgeries.

Hurricane season will be here soon, thank God.

She shakes her head, plucking my card out of my hand. “This will do! Pin code is your birthday, right?”

“Umm, yeah, but you’re not on my account, so they won’t let you pull it,” I tell her.

“Add me, then.” She smiles. I fumble over my words as she trots down the driveway to her car. “Bye, Ghost!” She blows me a kiss and takes off.

I don’t want this.

Not the baby. Of course, I want the baby.

But I thought this was some sick joke that Envy pulled. I thought differently until I saw her bulging stomach and an ultrasound.

I want Skyler.

I want her blonde hair strewn across my pillow, I want her to take up the whole bed.

I want her every night, every second, forever.

I want her so bad, and she doesn’t even remember wanting me.
