Page 51 of Crash into me

Idon’t know how I’m going to focus on this fucking race, but I have to.

Sophie is taken care of, and Skyler is safe. That’s all I could ask for, but now I’m trapped in a deal with the Keeper, and he won’t let me go anywhere until his debt is repaid—with interest.

I shake my helmet, getting back to reality. We’re all lined up, roaring engines begging to be let loose as the flag girl walks to the middle of the street.

It’s dangerous to get distracted when you race.

I try to focus on what’s ahead, the spectacular dry road that’s been heated by the sun all day allowing for perfect traction. But my mind only rolls back to Skyler’s face and how sad she looked when I left.

I feel like I’ve abandoned her. But just like she made the decision on her own to pretend like she didn’t know me, I made a decision on my own to protect her.

Not only am I in debt to a fucking wolf of a human, but my life is in danger if I don’t see it through.

He would put a bullet through my head without a second thought, and my body would be a new addition to the bottom floor of the ocean before anyone could blink.

The racers are lining up, revving their engines on either side of me. I’m not worried, even with my mind reeling, I’ve never been beaten in a race. Although I left that one when I thought I was protecting Skyler, the circuit still sees me as undefeated, and it’s going to stay that way.

Familiar bikes are all around, and I’ve destroyed every one of them countless times.

The countdown begins as everyone revs their engines. I look to my left at an unfamiliar black bike that just pulled in, and I rev my throttle.

“Three!” the flag girl shouts. The crowd cheers, and a flash of pink catches my eye. There’s a girl on the bike. That’s pretty cool. We need more female racers.

“Two!” The rider lifts her face shield, showcasing my favorite thing: a pair of bright blue eyes that tricked me.

“Freckles!” I shout as she pulls her visor back down and faces forward.

“One!” the girl shouts.

I’m jolted back as Skyler takes off once the flag gets thrown down.

I take off, passing the bike Skyler is on and peeling my head back to give her the angriest look I can fathom before I flip my tinted shield down. What is she fucking thinking?

Anger fuels me as I whip through the tight roads. I need this race to end now. This is what got us into this mess, her thinking she could ride. Fuck, I want her to do whatever she wants.

I want her to be safe though.

She’s going to drive me mad.

I dash through the finish line, watching with gritted teeth as racer after racer passes with no Skyler in sight. Ryder pulls up beside me. “You good?”

“Skyler’s in the fucking race.”

Callum lifts his shield, an apologetic look on his face. “Please don’t fucking tell me you knew.” I sigh, looking him over.

“Where is she?” Ryder ask the question I’m too scared to.

I cross my arms, my bike underneath me. “I’m going to kill her when she gets here.” I cut my eyes to Callum. “I’m going to kill you tonight and bury you in the backyard,” I add.

Ryder looks away.

“Fuck, you knew too?” I run my palm over my face. “I’ll have to dig two holes,” I growl.

A sigh escapes me as she comes in tenth place, which actually isn’t too bad. There were thirty riders. But still, I’m pissed.

She gets past the finish line, and I nod my head, taking off and asking for her to follow with a wave. Once we’re a good distance away from everyone and in the shadow of night, I flip my foot peg down and walk up to her. “What in the fuck were you thinking?”

She stays on her bike and lifts her helmet off, her blonde hair cascading down her back. She looks hot as fuck. “Hey, Ghost.”
