Page 53 of Crash into me
I could punch myself for being so nervous to see everyone, but it’s like I never left. My chosen family is elite.
Ryder and Kate are at the taco truck, enjoying their night. I’m so glad my plan worked, so Foster will dothisin public. I lean in to kiss him, feeling a sense of pride wash over me when his inked arms fold around me.
He may be worried about this so-called Keeper, but nothing in this world scares me more than losing Foster Jennings.
Hand in hand, we walk past a few shops. They’re all closed, as the races are typically around midnight, and that’s why we love food trucks. “Ice cream?” he offers.
“Definitely.”
We walk up to a candy apple red truck, scoping out the menu. “I’ll have double chocolate,” he decides. “You?”
“Pistachio!” I tell him.
“Fucking weirdo,” he teases, pulling out his wallet to pay.
The rest of the racers have left, and only a few stragglers stay behind, but our crew is all grouped together. I step over to Kate, filling her in on my new racing life as I enjoy my three-scoop waffle cone. She laughs, not believing me. “No, I’m dead serious. I just raced,” I tell her.
“Youwhat?”
I gesture to my bike, a matte black racer with a new detail, a pink butterfly on the tank. Me, Callum, and Ryder spent the day getting it ready.
She walks to it, strumming her hands along it, and then she turns to Ryder. “Is this what you were working on all day?” Ryder nods, and she shakes her head. “You better be freaking careful, Skyler!”
I nod. “I promise, I will be.” The crash not only affected my life, but it also traumatized everyone around me.
I can only hope this time with more practice that nothing like before will ever happen again.

We’re young and free, enjoying the dark blanket of the night. Foster throws me over his shoulder, parading me around our group. Kate slaps my ass, and Foster spins on her. “That’s mine,” he playfully growls, sinking his teeth into my jeans.
A flash of green catches me off guard, and I wiggle free from his grip.
The benefit was only two nights ago, and in the frenzy of everything I forgot. How could I fucking forget?
“Get the fuck away from him!” I sneer as Envy steps to Foster’s side.
Her head whips around, the fake extensions in her dark hair. She’s surprised to see me.
I lunge for her, and Foster pulls me back. “Woah, Freckles. What the fuck!”
I try to wiggle free as he holds on to me. “Let me go!” I scream, my eyes fixated on her protruding stomach. “It’s all a fucking lie!”
For the first time with Envy’s apparent ‘badass’ demeanor, I see something shift in her. She’s scared, of me and what I know.
“I know you don’t like her.” He keeps a tight hold on me. “But she’s carrying my daughter. You’re going to see each other, Sky.”
“Foster,” I plead with a wiggle. ‘You’re not listening.” It’s so hard for me to say this; I know he’s excited about being a father. “She’s not pregnant.”
“What?” He laughs a little, looking at me with an odd expression.
“Skyler,” Envy warns, taking a step towards me.
I let my tongue loose, throwing the truth in front of everyone. Anger won’t allow me to do this in a more civilized manner. “She never was!” I pull Foster’s hands, trying to escape. “Why are you still holding me back?”
I look at his face, noting the hollow expression; he doesn’t believe me. I don’t blame him, though. What a cruel lie. I know I lied to him too, but it was to protect him. Envy just wanted him, and she would do anything to keep him.
His nods his head to Ryder, who then comes and holds me. “Seriously? Are you kidding me!”
