Page 26 of Kane
She wondered if she had taken things too far.
After all, they hadn’t had any kind of talk about what the boundaries of their relationship were. Sure, Kane had earlier mentioned something about rules, but that wasn’t anything to do with their relationship.
Or was it?
‘Okay, kid, it’s time for a tour,’ Kane said, ignoring Cassie’s embarrassment and proceeding in business-like fashion. ‘Finish your milk and leave the cup on the counter. I’ll wash it later.’
‘Yes, thank you,’ Cassie said, delighting inwardly with how commanding Kane was being. Cassie loved how firm, but also fair, Kane seemed.
Cassie also thoroughly enjoyed the sight of Kane walking around the corridors of his apartment, reaching out with his long, strong arms to point out various nooks, crannies and original details that remained from when the building was erected.
In fact, as interesting as what Kane was saying was, Cassie could barely hear a single word of it…
That tushy… I can’t stop staring.
And that big snake at the front of his jeans…
It’s too much!
‘Hey, are you listening?’ Kane asked, a hint of impatience in his voice. ‘It’s not every day I give someone a guided tour, you know?’
Cassie could feel her cheeks burning with shame.
The last thing she wanted was to come over as rude.
But she could hardly tell Kane what had caused her mind to wander so wildly away from what Kane was saying. Whatever that was.
‘Um, sorry, I’m just… distracted,’ Cassie said, trying her best to sound convincing. ‘I am listening. Just maybe not as well as I could be. I’ll do better!’
Kane rolled his eyes and continued to give the tour.
Next stop, the bedroom.
‘That’s a big bed. A really, really, extra big bed!’ Cassie said, her eyes wide open as she took in the sight of Kane’s bedroom. ‘You could fit four people in there!’
‘Well, I don’t know about that. There’s definitely room for two,’ Kane replied, stepping into the room.
Cassie was taken aback by not only the size of the bed, but the incredible view out from the floor to ceiling window opposite. Kane’s bedroom looked right out on to a lovely local park area.
‘This must be a wonderful view to wake up to every morning,’ Cassie said, dreamily and already fantasizing what it would be like to do so herself.
‘It is. I do so many night shifts though, it’s not all that frequent. I sometimes end up falling asleep at my computers. So there’s that too,’ Kane said, a hint of regret in his voice. ‘Also, one too many beers and I crash on the couch. Life is busy. These things happen.’
‘Well, if I was you, I’d be getting all cozy in this bed every single night I could,’ Cassie replied, running her hand over the bright white duvet that ran over the length of the bed. ‘My only comment is you could maybe do with a touch of color in here. You know, just a splash here and there maybe?’
‘Hmmm. A little bit forward, don’t you think?’ Kane growled, momentarily looking serious before breaking out into a big smile. ‘Here, look at this. I want to show you something.’
Cassie stood in awe as Kane walked over to her at the window overlooking the city. It felt intense to be so close to Kane.
Exciting.
A little bit intimidating.
Cassie knew that Kane was a man mountain. More than capable of doing whatever he wanted to her. But at the same time, Cassie felt like she could trust Kane implicitly.
Unlike her former Daddy, Kane seemed to have only good vibes. Cassie could never imagine him being cruel or putting her down.
They didn’t know each other well, that couldn’t be denied.
