“Hey Nick.”

That’s his lawyer. We’ve been waiting for a call back.

I slowly close the laptop and sit on the edge of my chair as I listen. The inflection of Sully’s voice gives nothing away. I wait patiently, but I’m dying to know what Nick is saying.

He chuckles. That’s a good sign, right? Then his face sobers. “Yeah, I understand.”Shit, maybe not?

“Okay, yeah, send it over and I’ll take a look.” I swallow and stand up. “Yup… Thanks, Nick.”

He ends the call and stuffs the phone in his pocket. I place my hands over my cheeks while I wait for him to say something.

“They wanna do it.”

I jump. “Ohmigod! Are you serious?!” I squeal loud enough for the movers upstairs to hear me. He smiles big. “You got the show, baby. He’s submitting contracts now.”

He steps off the ice and wraps me in his arms. “You’re about to be very busy.”

“Holy shit!” I giggle. “Sully, I don’t know how to ever thank you for doing this.”

“I can think of several ways.”

38 weeks pregnant

“Celly Kapowski!!” Delta shouts, slapping Cori on the back when she gets to the bench after a goal.

Cori leans forward, rinses her mouth with water, and sits up again to survey the game. “Twenty-three has a weak spot on the left,” she says to the other women, panting.

Sully paces behind the bench. It might as well be porn. Good fucking grief. This ismyman?Mine?Good for me. Maybe it’s the hormones, but there’s no way I won’t jump him the second there isn’t a panel of plexiglass between us. I’m supposed to be watching the game, I keep telling myself this, but it’s Lee Sullivan.Whew.

I cross my thighs, wearing a tight dress that shows off my bump. It’s one he loves, though this time with a cute Roguesjacket over top. Sully made sure to outfit me in enough gear, but unfortunately, the jerseys keep riding up my belly. Besides, I like the jacket the team gave me, it’s special.

The team is playing like a well-oiled machine. Surrounding me are some of the Lakes WAGs, and their husbands are with them. It’s fun being the coach’s girlfriend. Normally, I’m in the private box, but every so often, I want to experience the action up close. Besides, the crowd is great. There’s so much positivity, more than I’ve seen at any other hockey game. The rest of our group agrees, it’s a different energy.

There’s another Lakes player in attendance with us, Shep Wilder. He’s yelling as much as the rest of them, though I’ve noticed he’s loudest when it comes to Cori Kapowski.

He smacks the plexiglass behind her. “Atta girl, Cor!” he yells over the fans.

“Can she hear you?” I ask.

“She hears me, but she’s not going to turn around. Cori’s a pro.” He doesn’t seem to care about her acknowledgment. He simply continues to cheer loud enough for her to hear through the glass. He talks about her like he knows her well. They must be friends or something off the ice. I don’t get to ask because he’s back to yelling her name when she jumps on the ice again at shift change.

I wait with our group near the locker room exit. My back is aching more than usual tonight. Week thirty-eight is tearing at every muscle I have. I can’t wait to see my man and get him home. Tonight calls for one of his back rubs. The second he walks out, I want to melt into the concrete floor. His cologne, thesuit… I’ve been watching him all night, and finally, he’s close enough to touch.

He shakes hands with a few of the players’ families before getting to me.

“Congratulations on the win!” I say, pressing my hands to the lapels of his suit. He looks down at me with a frown. “Hey, I’ve got to run to my office and grab some paperwork, do you want to join me?”

Oh. Kinda was hoping for a kiss, or some enthusiasm? It’s fine. He’s got to stay professional and is probably exhausted. It’s not like he’s getting all the horny hormones I am.

I nod and paste a big smile on my face. “Of course!”

We take a private elevator to the administrative floor.

He stares at me in the elevator, fists tucked in his pockets, looking stressed out.

“Everyone is going to Top Shelf to celebrate after this,” I say. “I told them we would join.”

He nods. “Yeah.”
