Page 96 of Burning Embers
Emery.
I realize that fact almost belatedly.
A loud snarl reverberates through the air.
I need to stop him before he does something stupid.
I need to move.
I need to?—
I can’t pull my gaze off of Isabella’s broken body.
People are running towards her, one of them Hale, but surprisingly, it’s Ansel who reaches her first. He places his hands over her chest, and the red coating my vision darkens, becoming almost garnet in appearance.
I lunge forward, prepared to rip him limb from limb for touching my mate…
When I see a strange green mist emitting from his hands.
What the fuck?
As I watch, both horrified and transfixed, Isabella’s arm snaps back into place. It looks as if it never broke to begin with. Her fingers begin to straighten out as well, and her leg no longer bends at an odd angle.
What. The. Fuck?
I need to go to her.
Hold her.
Save her.
Fur explodes on my arms, and I take a step forward…
When a familiar man steps in front of me.
A man I never thought I’d see again.
“What…?” I blink, certain I’m hallucinating.
My older brother’s face is grave, and his eyes are clouded with fear.
Fear for me?
Emery?
Isabella?
Isabella…
The shock holding me immobile dissipates, and I find myself moving. I need to get to her. I need to touch her. I need to?—
“We need to get you out of here,” my brother tells me, guiding me away from my mate.
I feel as if I’m walking in the opposite direction of a current. Everyone is racing to get to Isabella.
My mate.
I need to get to her.
