I loved her.

Amore.

Love.

I should have been terrified, running out the door, trying to convince myself I was wrong. Amara was beautiful, and of course, I wanted to spend time with her, fuck her, put her on my arm, and show her off to the world. I did. I wanted all those things, but I also never wanted to let her go.

“What are you thinking about?” she asked, touching my face.

You.

I love you.

“About how much I’d love to stay here with you and forget that the world and the club still exist and that my cousin is still breathing.” I tucked her into my chest. “Thank you for yesterday. Leni can be a little hot and cold, unpredictable, but deep down, she has a good heart for those she cares about. I think you two could be good friends.”

Amara appeared to become pensive for a moment.

“She was…nice.”

I couldn’t help but burst into laughter, and taking advantage of my vulnerability, she flipped us over and sat on my abdomen, arms folded against my chest as her hair fell around us.

“I’m sorry,” she said, attempting to push the sex curls over her shoulders, but I caught her wrist and smiled.

“Leave it. This hair is one of my favorite things about you. One of many.”

As much as I wanted to scream to the four corners of the world to tellherhow much I loved her, I knew she wasn’t ready yet. She might think I was crazy, and maybe I was, since it had been just over a month since that night she bewitched me. But I didn’t need a calendar to dictate my heart. Not when it had come back to life with the sole purpose of loving her.

“Santino, can I ask you something?”

I smoothed my hands down the curve of her back and over her ass, giving her cheeks a light tap. “Of course.”

With a small laugh, she laid her head on my shoulder and gently traced the scar on my sternum. “Do you know Valentina’s parents?”

“I’ve heard of them but never met them. Why? Because Derek was part of Ares?” She nodded but didn’t speak.

“Derek and his brother spared Maksim’s life a few years ago. Killed off most of his family.”

“Wow,” was all she said, and I felt her tense.

“Yeah. And you, preziosa, did you know him? Is that why you’re asking?”

For a moment, I thought she’d say yes, as her silence seemed like a confession, but she shook her head.

Silas had informed me of what I had already known and suspected. Amara Carvalho was a woman without a past or paper trail beyond the last few years. But I had kept my word and remained silent about her former affiliation with Ares. Silas and I had been brothers for over a decade, and hiding such vital information from him felt wrong, but my love and loyalty to this woman ran deep. My chest tightened upon realizing the lengths I would go to protect her.

I was hopeful that one day, she’d open up to me so that my love could extend to everypart of who she was.

“Someone is calling you,” she said, pressing kisses down my chest.

“You expect me to give a damn about a phone when I’ve got you here like this?”

Amara slid her tongue lazily across my skin as she looked at me from under her lashes. “It could be important.”

“More important than my girl leaking all over me? No.”

A flush of pink colored her cheeks when she lifted her hips and peeked between us, where my cum was sliding out of her and over my pelvis.

“Shit,” she said in a slight panic as she tried to maneuver off me.
