I instantly miss that touch of possession and search for his hand. I bring it around to the front of my neck and place it against my throat.
Without a word, he senses what I want and tightens his grip just below my jaw, sending a rush of need coursing through me. I love that streak of possessiveness in him and how it makes me feel, especially at moments like this.
His body presses against mine, and he begins to fuck me with shallow jabs instead of the long, slow strokes from a few minutes ago. He wasn’t lying when he said he wouldn’t last long. That’s okay. We’ll have time together after dinner tonight.
The softness of his silk tie sliding against my back suddenly becomes my focus as he releases his hold on my left hip and slides his hand up to my shoulder. He moves his mouth from near my ear, and a moment later, I feel his teeth sink into the tender skin near my collarbone. It doesn’t hurt but instead only increases my desire, and I moan softly to let him know I love it.
“Oh, fuck…” he groans, and I know it’s only a matter of seconds before he comes.
I arch my back once more, and he fills me with everything he has until it runs down the inside of my thighs. Matthias slowly pumps into me a few more times before I come, my hands tightly gripping the edge of the bar counter so I don’t fall.
He wouldn’t let me, though. I know that. I’m safe with this man.
Kissing me softly just below my ear, he whispers, “I love you, and that’s got to be the best midday break I’ve ever had.”
I turn my head to see him grinning and smile back at him. “Happy to be of assistance. Let’s schedule another session like this for later after dinner tonight.”
He presses a kiss to my lips and sighs. “It’s a deal.”
When he slides out of me, I instantly miss him. I slowly spin around as he finishes zipping up his pants and then crouches down to pick up my clothes. It reminds me of that snowy December day when he took such care with removing my snow-drenched shoes as I sat on his bed wondering what was happening since until that moment he’d been nothing short of my mortal enemy.
I get my clothes back on as he silently watches me with that same expression of fascination in his eyes he always seems to have when he looks at me. Ready to head back outside, I stand on my tiptoes to kiss him softly on the lips.
“Have a good day at work. See you later?” I ask, already sure of the answer.
“Absolutely.”
When I move to leave so he can return to work, he stops me by holding me there with him. Unsure why, I shake my head and stare up at him in confusion.
“Is something wrong?”
With a smile that makes him even more gorgeous than usual, he answers, “Not a thing. I love you.”
“I love you too, Matthias.”
He sighs heavily. “Time for me to get back to work. I miss you already.”
“I’ll just be outside,” I say with a smile before kissing him again. “Feel free to join me. I’m going to see what Mick is planting today.”
As I turn to leave once again, he doesn’t stop me, but I hear him mumble as he walks back to his desk, “You have no idea how much I wish I could.”
I glance back at him as he positions himself at his desk to get back to work and can’t help but think he doesn’t belong there. He should be outside drawing and enjoying his art.
Maybe I’ll be able to convince him to join me later.

The groundskeeper’swrist-deep in topsoil as he transplants a rose bush from out near the edge of the property to a few yards away from the back patio off the living room. I asked him to plant some roses there, never thinking he’d actually move an entire bush from another part of the estate to that spot, and I feel like I should offer to help him since he’s gone to so much trouble.
“Would you like an assistant? I’m pretty good with dirt, or so my father used to tell me since I never failed to come home filthy as a little girl.”
Mick lifts his head and gives me a big smile. “I think I have this covered, but I’d love some company. I sent the rest of the crew out to clean up that strip of land right near the property line today. I don’t know how long it’s been since anyone paid attention to that part of the estate, but it’s a bit shabby back there.”
I sit down on the grass near him and watch as he carefully works to make sure the rose bush is transplanted safely. “I don’t know. I can’t remember the last time I was out there. When we were all kids, neither my parents nor Mr. and Mrs. King liked us to be that far out. I’d bet it’s been at least a decade since I saw what that part of the property looked like.”
“You and the Kings have been close all your lives? That’s nice.”
