“When she gets well enough, I think you should take her home. Don’t give her the option. Just do it.”

“Are you suggesting I kidnap my sister?”

“Not exactly.” She chuckled. “But don’t let her go back to her brownstone alone. She may not be doing it intentionally, but her decisions and self-isolation are killing her. I think being around those that love her, will help her. She may not see that now, but she’ll never heal if she stays here locked up in her brownstone alone.”

“But what if—” I choked on the words I was about to say. “What if she doesn’t make it.”

“You can’t think like that. Be here for her, talk to her, let her know you care, and she’ll pull through. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Abby over the past ten years is she’s a fighter. Now help her fight.”

Elise patted my on the shoulder and left the room.

Help her fight? Hell, I’d trade places with her if I could. There wasn’t anything I wouldn’t do for one of my siblings. But how do I help her fight this illness and gain back her health? Her recovery was out of my control. All I could do was stay with her and offer her my strength.

I hoped that was enough.
