Her grin grew. I rarely showed my Grandmother affection and any time I did, she overflowed with joy. She knew I loved her, but as much as I hated to admit it, showing her how much meant so much more. “Excellent. That'll be a great addition to our portfolio.”
“It will, and if all goes well, it'll lead to a lot more business. They already agreed to tack on three more resorts in the northeast.”
“Oh, well then. It will be a happy new year indeed.”
“And as long as you don’t have a problem with it, I planned on letting Madison manage the account. I think she’s better suited for it than me.”
Grandmother looked at me and smiled. “Sounds like a great plan, Logan. So, tell me. How are thing going with Madison?”
“Good. She’s acclimating well into the company.”
“I’m not talking about the company.” She slipped her arm into mine and led me away from the crowd. “I’m talking about you and her.”
“Oh.” I sighed. “Playing matchmaker, again are we?”
“Honey, I will play matchmaker with you two until my dying breath if that’s what it takes. You two belong together.”
“Grandmother!” This was the first time she had openly admitted to playing matchmaker. We always knew this was what our grandmothers wanted. But neither of them ever said it out loud.
“Oh, now. Don’t act like that. Judy and I are tired of waiting on you two. Now tell me how it’s going.”
I huffed and rubbed my eyes. There was no use trying to deny it any longer. Grandmother would continue badgering me until I told her what she wanted to hear. “Slow. Very slow. But if I have my way, that will change soon.”
She patted my arm and nodded. “Good enough. Now go find that girl and enjoy your evening. I think I saw her in the back.”
“Thanks.” I kissed her cheek again. “Catch you later, Grandmother.”
Heading towards the back of the lobby, I scanned the area assuming this would be as good a place as any to start looking, but I didn’t she her golden blond hair anywhere.
I was about to turn around and head back to the main entrance way when I caught a glimpse of Jonathan darting around the corner. I started toward him since I hadn’t spoken to him this evening. I was about to call out his name when I stopped. He was talking to Madison.
She was laughing at something and it made me smile. Madison had the most beautiful smile. With one happy look she could light up a room. It also lit up my heart and ignited every nerve ending my body.
She seemed to be in her element and doing a great job mingling with clients.
But my smile faded when Jonathan slipped his hand into hers and lifted it to his lips. Madison’s smile faded and she turned her head away. I couldn't see her expression, but she didn't pull her hand from him.
Then Jonathan did something that made my blood boil. He leaned in close to her and kissed her neck.
I sucked in a breath, and I swore my heart stopped beating. She didn't push him away, and she didn't tell him no. She stood there, motionless and let him kiss the soft sensitive spot below her ear. The spot that was only meant for my lips.
I couldn’t watch anymore and turned away. I had to fight the urge to barge up and punch Jonathan. That would be a sure way to lose a client.
How could she let him kiss her like that? Why didn’t she stop him, push him away, or yell for help? Anything would have been better than to just let him kiss her like that.
Unless she wanted him to kiss her. Was that it? Did she want him and not me?
No longer in a holiday mood, I grabbed my coat and slipped out the front door. If Madison wanted Jonathan, I wouldn't stop her. It wasn't my place. Yes, we agreed to see where a relationship would take us, but we made no formal commitment to each other.
If she wasn’t serious about me, I would’ve preferred she just said so rather than play me like a fool.
She was no different than every other woman I’d dated, and I was foolish enough to think she was different. The joke was on me.
