Page 47 of Born Reckless
“Thank you,” I say again softly as my eyes rise to meet his.
And heat flashes through my belly as the look in his eyes goes primal. “Anything for you, Juliet.”
Maybe it was him. Maybe it was me.
But the next moment, our lips collide and move in unison, and my hands go behind his neck. Everything in me sighs and smiles wickedly when his hands clutch my hips, and he yanks me closer.
My eyes slide closed as if I’ve lost all control. I pull Mason’s lower lip between my teeth and tug, which gains me a very male grunt from him. He spins me around and steps me backward until the backs of my knees hit the edge of his bed. He places a hand against the fluffy black bedspread and lowers the both of us down to it without his lips leaving mine even once.
My hand slides down over his chest, and I realize what I’ve been missing all these years. Sure, I’ve looked at guys in the past. But none of them looked like Mason. None of them felt like he does. It’s very apparent Mason makes good use of his home gym.
Our kisses grow more frantic, more possessive. My head tips back against the bed and his lips trail to my neck. His free hand snakes its way up my arm and then over to my jaw. He grips me there, turning my head to the side. And everything in me explodes into stars and fire as I feel his tongue trace its way up my neck.
“I’ve been dreaming about you for weeks,” Mason growls into my skin.
And I can’t stop myself. I wrap my legs around his waist. I grip his wrists, and I roll us. It’s so easy, it’s laughable. It’s as if Mason weighs no more than the pillows behind his head. My inhuman strength has him pinned back against the bed, his wrists constrained in a fraction of a second.
Instead of looking scared, a wicked smile just pulls on Mason’s lips. One reflects on my own face as I bend down once again and conjoin our mouths once more.
I’ve been imagining this moment since the very first second I spotted him across the building at that party. My imagination was trying to piece together what this view would look like, and it certainly didn’t do it justice. My body responds to every hard plane of Mason’s and my entire nervous system is screaming more, more, more.
But as I lean forward again, tracing my nose along his jawline, I inhale. Every bit of need in me doubles at the scent of him. The human, manly scent of him, but also the scent of what is pulsing through his veins.
“Don’t stop,” Mason growls, and something in his tone tells me it’s an invitation to do what I’m currently imagining.
I’m pushing the boundaries. I’m taking things too far.
But that’s my middle name.
I’ve always been reckless.
So, I lean forward just a fraction more. My teeth elongate, and I sink them into his soft, warm flesh.
A contented sigh escapes Mason as he leans his head against the bed. His entire body relaxes beneath me.
I pull. My mouth fills with the most delicious taste in the world. My right hand slides up his chest and I draw in another mouthful.
More, more, more, that demanding part of me screams.
And I can see it now.
I could easily take everything from Mason. I could take every last drop of his blood and it would be the best, most satisfying feeling in the world.
For a moment.
Until the horror of the fact that I’d killed him set in.
Mason’s not ready. It isn’t his time to Resurrect.
And I have to be damn careful that no accidents happen.
So, I place a hand on his chest. I lick over the punctures in his neck, and they start closing almost immediately. And I close my eyes with a shaky moan as I pull back from him just a bit.
“Ju…Juliet,” Mason says, his voice fluttery and contented, almost like he’s drugged. “Why’d you stop?”
The haze in his eyes clears and they meet mine. He genuinely didn’t want me to stop. I wonder what it feels like, to be bitten by a vampire. I’ll never know now.
But nervous shame bites at the bottom of my stomach, threatening to spill all the acid from it, dissolving us both. “We have to be careful, Mason,” I say, my voice soft. I shake my head. “I’m still trying to get control over this. I can’t be the reason you Resurrect prematurely. If we…” I shake my head once more. “We can’t take this too far, or I might lose control.”
