“Ah…a friend-friend or a friend,” I emphasize the word.
“What’s the difference?” He pulls his eyebrows down.
“Uh, one’s actually a friend, and the other is more than that,” I say matter-of-factly, but he shrugs.
“Just a friend,” he repeats, but the look on his face tells me there’s more to that story. I let it be, not getting in his business, and find Dakota.
“I’m going for a ride. I’ll be back soon.”
“Sounds good. Be safe.”
“Always am,” I call over my shoulder as I lead Dakota out of the stall and get her ready for a ride.
As I feel the wind rush past me, I allow the excitement I feel about tomorrow’s meeting to fill me. A future opportunity is a good thing. I know how important this first project was. I had to prove myself, show them I was worth hiring and keeping. I knew it would open doors for the possibility of working with them again, even if it was only project based and not a full-time hire.
I love helping my family on the ranch, so I’d be okay balancing both so long as I can still work as an architect. Who knows, maybe I’ll find a full-time job in the future. This experience is sure to help with that, adding projects to my portfolio and not just the ones I had to do for classes.
After my short ride, I return home and brush Dakota’s coat. I clean her hooves afterward, giving her some TLC. My phone pings in my back pocket, and I pull it out to see who it is.
Canaan: I have a cavity because of you
What?I stare at his message, wondering what the heck he means by that.
Canaan: Because you’re way too sweet
Madelyn: I take it back when I said that other joke was your worst. This one is. OMG LOL
Madelyn: I couldn’t figure out what the hell you were saying. I’m not getting blamed for anyone’s dental issues
Canaan: Lol my teeth are perfect and so are you. What are you up to? Are you home already?
Madelyn: Yup, just finished riding Dakota and finishing up grooming her. How was work?
Canaan: Good but I missed you
Madelyn: I did, too…I kept expecting to see your sexy arms flexing but alas you weren’t there *sigh*
Canaan: You can see them flex tonight. Over you, next to you, under you *wink emoji*
I shiver and smile, my core pulsing.
Madelyn: Hmmm… that sounds tempting
Canaan: So say yes to dinner with me. We can go out if you want
Madelyn: Or stay in?
Canaan: Whatever you want
I think about the options. It’s a weeknight, but it’s early enough that I can shower, and we can make it to dinner before it’s too late.
Madelyn: Let’s go out. Sauce It Up? I could go for some pizza or creamy pasta
Canaan: Your wish is my command
Madelyn: In that case…I wish to be off on a tropical island with you and no interruptions
Madelyn: Snapping my fingers but the wish isn’t coming true
