Epilogue

Ben

Two more weeks. That’s all. I only have to wait two more weeks and then I have the go ahead.

Waking up beside her this morning feels different somehow - like the day knows I am antsy with anticipation - and I roll onto my side to look at her.

The freckles that climb her spine are a constellation I have memorised, and yet, each time I trail my eyes over her skin I focus on each one as if I’ve never seen her before. I trace my fingers over the curve of her spine as she lays beside me, brushing past the old scar on her shoulder and pushing her hair aside, and a soft smile breaks through her semi-sleepy state.

“Morning, baby.” I press a kiss against the button of her nose before she rolls onto her side and the sheets bunch at her waist. I pull my hands over her side, the pad of my thumb skimming the underside of her breast as I move closer. “Big day today.”

“Mhmm.” She shuffles closer, hooking her leg over my waist without even opening her eyes, and pulls my lips to hers. “Big day. Yep.”

“You’ve got a deadline now. Gotta get up and go be a little superstar.” I mumble against her lips as I grin and Mik groans.

“Less talking. More kissing.”Her fingers wind into my hair, tugging gently as she rocks her hips against me and I chuckle.

“Yes, Ma’am.” I roll so that she’s beneath me, my teeth grazing her jaw as I begin to suck and nip my way down her body, making her squirm beneath me.

Yes.

I could wake up like this every morning for the rest of forever. I want to wake up like this every morning. And for my plan to work, and for Jamie not to kick my ass for taking the focus away from the big birthday he’s got planned for her, I just have to wait two more weeks before I can ask her to be mine forever. And I will ask, because no matter what obstacles the universe throws at me I know one thing for sure. I will walk every single path placed in front of me, I will break every rule placed down and face every storm, to make sure that Mikaela Wilcox spends the rest of her days smiling.
