“You and me both.” I glanced back at the old two-story house that wasn’t sure if it wanted to be a brownstone or a concrete slab. When I’d first moved in, I thought it was charming in its uncertainty—kind of like me.
Now I just saw how much it didn’t fit me anymore.
I gave Merry one more hug. “I’ll send pictures of the beautiful bride.”
“You better.”

I climbed into Lola, my SUV and headed north.
I wasn’t sure Happy Acres would be a good fit either, but anything was better than here right now.
