“Once the liquor haze wore off,” Cat said, “he wasn’t as much fun as I thought. His music kind of sucked too.”

They all started to laugh. “Did you ever find out what his real name was?” Hannah asked.

“No. I’m not sure I’d want to know. It was probably something dorky like Harold,” Cat said.

There was more laughter. Vivian loved working with this group of girls.

“How busy are you all?” she asked. “Should we order dinner? I’ve got a cut coming in about twenty minutes but will be free by five I think.”

“I don’t have another appointment until six,” Cat said. “A color and cut, shouldn’t take too long. I’ll be done by closing.”

The girls all made their own appointments and schedules but often stayed longer as Hannah liked to generate business for walk-ins. It was Vivian’s lucky day to get the sexy Brent.

“Addison is going to be in here soon. She says she has a date tonight and wants her hair done.”

Addison Fielding was Cash’s sister and Vivian was hoping that maybe they’d leave her alone about the hot guy who just left, knowing Addison—another single lady—was coming in to get ready for a date. She’d make sure of it.

“I’ve got nothing else scheduled,” Jenna said, “unless someone comes in, so I can get dinner and anything else you need me to do.”

She loved that Jenna was so eager at twenty-three years old.

“Anyway, what do we want to eat?”

“I don’t care about food,” Cat said. She could see Cat was getting bored with the conversation as she normally did. “I want to know what Vivian is thinking of the hermit that was in here.”

She should have figured Cat would bring it back to that. So yeah, she’d double back to make sure Addison was the center of attention soon.

“What is there to think?” she asked. “Other than you were all embarrassing him, as I said.”

“And normally you politely put us in our place,” Cat said. “But you didn’t. You were too busy staring into his eyes while you trimmed his beard.”

Damn it. She should have realized Cat would have caught her gazing into Brent’s blue eyes. Not that they were as blue as Cat’s. No one’s were and it was the feature that stood out the most on her friend.

“It was hard not to when I was right...in his face that way.”

“He sure was a cutie,” Hannah said. “And Cat is right. Normally you don’t do that. You thought he was hot, didn’t you?”

“And he had a body on him,” Jenna said. “Nice and tall, thin like you but not scrawny.”

“I’m not sure how you could tell with his jeans and T-shirt,” she said. “It’s not like those jeans were fitted on him that well.”

“You were looking at his ass,” Cat said. “You had to be to know that.”

She blushed knowing she was caught. “Maybe I was.”

“You should have gotten his number,” Jenna said. “He’s totally your type.”

She frowned. “I didn’t know I had a type. As you all keep reminding me, I don’t date, so how could you know my type when I don’t?”

“Because he was quiet like you,” Hannah said. “He didn’t give a lot of facts about himself. He talked but didn’t say much. It was almost like looking into the mirror for you. That’s probably why you were staring into his eyes.”

“Burn,” Cat said. “She got you there.”

Vivian didn’t want to admit what Hannah said was true, but she did keep a lot of her life private. With reason.

No one knew her name had been changed and, if she had her way, no one ever would.

“Whatever is going on in Brent’s life, it’s his life, not mine or yours.”
