“Maybe.”
“You wanna know how I feel, Beth?”
“Not really.”
Dusty bends down and picks the bakery wrapper up off the ground. “I’m hungry. Actually, I’mstarving…for some bottoms.” He winks, and the wind deflates from my sails. Along with my sanity, this charming asshole has stolen my breath.
My mouth hangs open. I have no words as I watch him devour the little bit of blueberry muffin left in the wrapper. His eyes never leave mine as he works his tongue into every single ridge.
I wish I could say it’s not a turn on, but his movements make me want to rip off my clothes and have him work my body like he’s working that wrapper.
Dusty’s right.
I’m a pervert. I’m basically a fourteen-year-old boy trapped in a twenty-something’s body. I should be ashamed of myself right now.
“You done?”
“I think so.” He walks over to where I’m standing. “Did you like the show?”
He knows I did.“What show?” I hate that this man can see right through me.
“Go out with me.”
“W-What?”
He must be high. This boy has lost his ever-loving mind thinking I would ever agree to a date now.
“Let me speak clearer,” he says, using my words against me. “Go out with me.”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t want to.” My arms cross over my chest.
The corner of Dusty’s mouth twitches. “Okay then.”
He wads up the wrapper and tucks it into his back pocket. “Don’t want to add to my list of offenses by littering on myownproperty.”
“Wise choice, Dusty. I don’t know where you’re from, but we take the law very seriously in these parts.”
“Glad to hear it.” He winks.
My property. Wait…what?
"I’m sorry, did you sayyourproperty? I think it’s about forty yards back up the way you came.”
“Technically, we’re standing on my property. If I’m not mistaken, that makes you a trespasser. You know, since we’re both so worried about the letter of the lawround these parts.”
Anger boils up inside me. I wish I had a bakery full of muffins to annihilate him with.
“I’d hate to have call the sheriff. What’s his name again?”
He wouldn’t!
The look I’d like to punch off his chiseled face says he would.
“Look, the way I see it, there’s no reason we can’t be adults about this—food fighting aside.”
