“Beth…” I silent beg.” There’s only so much I can hold back.
“Please… I’ll be good.” Beth pulls the blankets up over her and pats her sides. “I’m a burrito!” She throws her hands in the air and laughs. “Ta-da!”
“Fine.” I walk over to the other side of the bed, kick off my boots, and slide down my jeans.
“Take it off, cowboy.” Beth tries to wink but ends up blinking both eyes instead.
“I thought you said you were going to behave yourself,” I remind her as I plop down and reach around my back, pulling off my shirt.
“Did I say that?”
“You did.” I lay back, staying above the covers. That’s all I need is to feel her next to me. On top is for the best.
“You know what?” Beth tries to roll over, but the blankets restrict her.
Thank God for burritos.
“What?”
“I have a secret.” She giggles.
“You do?”
This should be interesting.
“Yup!” She nods once. “I like Dusty Jacobs. He’s the bearded charmer.”
Bearded charmer? Nice.
I hold in a laugh.
“He’s kind of sweet. But don’t tell him I said so. We are at war—and I’m winning.”
Damn if she isn’t right
“You’re secret’s safe with me, darlin’.”
You’re safe with me.
