And kiss her everywhere he did.Her breasts, her inner thighs, her wrists and cheeks. No skin on her body was left untouched by Brant’s lips. She savored his mouth on her body, his skin touching hers, him fitting perfectly inside her. She’d never get tired of feeling him.Even when they were finished and she was resting on his chest, their heartbeats echoing the same rhythm, she felt a sense of peace she’d never experienced before.

It was euphoric as much as it was terrifying. She wanted nothing more than to give herself over to him one hundred percent. In the back of her mind, however, was a little voice telling her Brant wasn’t going to be a permanent resident of her small town. Not when he had a sick mom in the city he thought needed him.

“I need to go take a shower,” she finally said into his chest after several minutes of him running his hands up and down her back in an intoxicating rhythm.

“Are you sure?We could go another round.”

CC laughed.“Someone enjoys morning sex.”

“I’m a guy.I’m pretty sure it’s programmed into me to enjoy it.”

“You said you wanted the entire experience of a Parker Fourth of July bash.”

“I did,” he said.“But I was going to talk to you about something.”

“Can it wait?I can hear a funnel cake calling my name.”

Brant sighed.“Yeah…yeah, it can wait.”

At the look on his face, CC ran her finger down his cheek.“Hey, I’m sorry. We can talk about it now if you want.I just don’t want you to miss anything.”

Brant leaned up and kissed her forehead.“Nah.Let’s enjoy our day.The Fourth of July only comes around once a year. You shower.I’ll make coffee. We’ll talk tonight.”

Rolling off his body, CC stretched her sore muscles before walking into the bathroom and turning on the water for the shower. She sighed in contentment when she stepped into the steam.Morning showers were one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind.

When the water started to run cool, CC turned the shower off and stepped out of the tub.She grabbed a tank top dyed to look like the American flag, a pair of white jean shorts, and her white Converse sneakers. After running some gel through her mane of curls and swiping some mascara on her eyelashes, she called it good and followed the delicious smell of coffee coming from the kitchen.

“That smells amazing,” CC said, watching Brant fill one of her coffee mugs.“That isn’t my regular Folgers, that’s for sure.”

“It’s some of the coffee at the specialty store I always bought when I was in nursing school,” he replied, handing her the creamer and sugar.“They grow their own beans and everything on their farm.I’m kind of a coffee snob.”

“How did I not know this?”

“Because all you’ve ever had is Folgers and I didn’t want you to know I am a coffee snob,” he replied, taking a big drink from his mug.“Sadie makes a special pot for me at the café every morning. It’s not as good asthis, but it’s the best coffee I’ve had in town.”

CC took a drink and sighed in happiness. It wasterrificcoffee.Brant had this whole coffee snob thing down.If this had been the first coffee she’d ever drank, CC wouldn’t touch anything else. She didn’t know how he was able to drink her coffee after this.

“Good, huh?”he asked, his eyes twinkling over his mug.

“Good,” she agreed, taking another sip.

“So, what’s on the agenda for today?I’ve never been in town for the big bash.”

“What?How is that possible?”

“The clinic is closed because of the holiday, so I would always go to the city the night before when the clinic closed.Spent Fourth of July with my mom.I didn’t realize the town even had a bash until you told me.”

“Didn’t you notice all the people getting things ready?”

“I guess I didn’t pay much attention.Besides, noteverythingis set up the day before.I think I would have noticed tables in the middle of the street.”

CC had to give him credit for that observation. This was the first year everyone decided to put things out the night before. For most of her life, citizens had gotten up at the butt crack of dawn to set everything up.Maybe they decided they hated mornings as much as she did.

“I don’t care what we do first. We can just walk around to see if anything strikes your fancy.I know the talent show begins at eleven, the chili cook-off at twelve-thirty, and the pie contest at two.”

“Why do we care about those if we don’t get to taste all the entries?”

“Oh, yeah!I forgot to tell you! They have samples.People can vote for which one they like best. That winner is separate from the judge’s winner.Fair warning, though. Not many people care about the people’s choice. They only care about Sadie’s opinion.”
