CC threw her hands in the air.She didn’t want to get in the middle of the cat fight and risk the women breaking their hips. But she also didn’t want them tokeepfighting in case theyalsofell and broke a hip.She had no idea what to do.All she knew was someone had to get these women to break things up…now.CC went to reach for her phone when thankfully, her bell jingled above her door.It looked like help had arrived. She just hoped it wasn’t another old lady wanting her hair to look like cotton candy.

Because of the nice weather,Brant had decided to walk to Sadie’s for lunch. The clinic closed from noon to one and the café was just a couple of blocks down on Main. When his stomach started growling, he knew it was time for Sadie’s special of the day, a grilled onion burger with a side of homemade onion rings.Imagine his surprise when he walked by CC’s salon to see Griff’s grandma and Madge Perkins engaged in a slap fight right in front of the shop’s large picture window.

Without thinking, Brant opened the door and rushed inside.“Ladies! What seems to be the problem?”

Surprised at the sound of his voice, both women ceased their fighting and began yelling Brant’s way.

“I got the cotton candy hairfirst!” Madge yelled.

“There ain’t no law that says she’s the only one who can have cotton candy hair!I don’t even want the same color so technically I’m not copyinganyone, especiallythisone who steals my hair ideas!I’m a style icon!NoticeIdidn’t say anything when all the old women started dyeing their hair the same as me.I set the precedent. If anything, they’rethe ones copyingme!” Kelda yelled, throwing a hair magazine at Madge.

Brant heard CC snorting behind him.He couldn’t help but smile, too.Kelda calling Madge an old woman was the pot calling the kettle black, especially since Kelda was several years older than the woman she was insulting.

“Ladies, you can’t be hitting each over a little thing like hair color.Madge, you wear the pink and Kelda can wear…”

“Baby blue.Or lilac.I can’t decide,” Kelda supplied.

“There’s cotton candy that’s baby blue!”Madge huffed.“Just like I was saying, she’s copying me.”

These women were crazy.Hedidthink Madge’s hair resembled cotton candy but why on earth shewantedit to look that way was anyone’s guess.“Kelda, why don’t you dye yours lilac? That way, it won’t resemble…cotton candy…and youbothcan be happy. But either way, the fighting has to stop.Either one of you might fall and break a hip.”

Both women frowned and crossed their arms over their chests.“Fine,” they both huffed.

“Do you promise?”

They sighed.“We promise.”

“Now shake on it.”

Kelda’s eyes widened.“Shake on it?”

“Shake on it.That way I know you mean it.Your handshake is as good as your word. You wouldn’t want to go back on your word, would you?”

Both women rolled their eyes but reluctantly held out their hands to each other.“Promise,” they said simultaneously, shaking each other’s hands as if they each had leprosy.

“Good,” Brant said.“Now I’m sure you want to show off your hair.So leave.”

“I didn’t even have time to get my hair do—: Kelda started to complain.

Brant looked at her sternly.“You got into a cat fight in the middle of Colleen’s shop. She’s probably not in the mood to dye your hair right now.So come back tomorrow after she’s cooled off.”

Kelda leveled him with a glare before stomping out of the shop, Madge following close behind.

CC staredafter the two women, leaving dead silence in their wake. All of a sudden the motivational quotes on her wall becameveryinteresting.

Be YOUtiful…

Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself…

If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun…

A smile is the most beautiful curve on a woman’s body.

She really had picked out some good quotes at the Hobby Lobbyin Lakeview, even if sticking them on the wall had been a bitch.

“I hope they didn’t screw anything up in your shop.”

CC sighed when she heard Brant’s deep, smooth, extremely sexy voice showing concern for her shop.Damn it.She had hoped by avoiding eye contact he would have followed the old women out the door.
