“So tell us more about this kiss,” Breckin said, leaning on one of the posts of the enclosure.“Was it good?”

She started to roll her eyes but then realized she couldn’t keep the smile off her face. What were friends for if not to tell her most juicy secrets, anyway? They already knew.Might as well spill.Besides, if they found out she had told Sadie first there would be hell to pay.“It took my breath away.”

Annie and Breckin clapped their hands and jumped up and down in glee.“Looks like your dry spell might be ending really soon!”Breckin said with a wink.

“Did the kiss wake up your lady parts?”Annie questioned.

CC felt her face turning red.“That’s the understatement of a lifetime.I’ve never been kissed the way I was kissed by Brant. It might have been the best kiss of my life.”

“Seriously?”Breckin screeched.

CC nodded.“Seriously.”

“So did you finally realize it didn’t matter how much schooling he had if the connection was there?”

“A wise woman whose hair I was dyeing hernaturalauburn made me realize that as I was fixing her hair behind locked doors and shaded windows.”

Her friends grinned. They were the only other ones in town who also knew Sadie’s secret.CC had let it slip one night after she had partaken too much wine and toasted marshmallows on Annie and Wyatt’s back deck.Luckily, she knew her friends would take the secret to their graves.

“It’s about damn time you started believing it,” Annie said.“You’re one of the best, most selfless people I know. He’d be an idiot not to realize that.”

“Thanks, guys.I’m glad you believe in me at least,” CC said. She couldn’t keep the sadness out of her voice.

“Troubles with your mom again?”Her friends knew her too well.

CC nodded.

“What happened?”they asked, both pulling her in for a group hug.

“You know.Same ol’, same ol’.She got mad when I didn’t confide in her.Tried to act like a mother of the year who cares.I finally told her how I’ve really felt all these years.”

Annie’s eyes widened.“You did?”

“Yep.”

“How’d that go over?”

“Not well. But I don’t even care.I’m so tired of it all. She’s a grown woman. She needs to understand not everything is rainbows and roses when it comes to our relationship.”

Her friends nodded.“Agreed.”

CC wiped her eyes. She hadn’t even realized she’d been crying.

“Want to know something that will cheer you up?”Breckin asked.

Annie and CC nodded. They needed some relief after all that emotion.

“Well…it’s big news.”

“Don’t tell me you’re leaving!”Annie said with a gasp.

“No!Why would you even think that?”

Her friend shrugged.“You said it was big news.”

“Well, it’s notthatkind of news.”

“You’re expanding the bar,” CC guessed.
