“Lightweight.”
“Pussy.”
I wrap my arm around her shoulders, kiss her forehead and then Hadley’s as we join him in the kitchen. “Your sister can attest to my lack of pussy status.”
“Bite me.” He guzzles the beer.
“Let’s convince him this is more than a bathroom hookup, and you don’t hate me.”
She snuggles against my chest. “I’d do you in the bathroom anytime.”
“You have.”
“We should stop. Our witty sexual banter will not win us any points with Andrew.” She smacks me in the chest and shifts her attention to her brother. “Listen. I realize this is a shock with the two of us never getting along, but it had more to do with my perception of him never taking anything seriously. It irritated me because I saw his potential and was afraid he’d never live up to it. But he’s not the same person I knew in high school. He’s a wonderful father. He’s a hard worker. He’s serious about doing the right thing, and I greatly respect him.”
He drops the bottle on the counter and leans against the cabinet. “So, this isn’t a one and done or a forced proximity thing?”
She gives him a pointed look. “He’s good-looking, but I’ve turned down a lot of guys who were good-looking.”
“What guys?”
“Did you want me to have sex with them all?”
“No.” My jaw tightens as visions of her with anyone else makes my stomach queasy. “I don’t want to think about you with anyone else.” Hadley’s eyes fill with tears as she arches her back.Shit.I relax my grip. “Sorry, baby.” I retrieve her from Mia’s arms and snuggle her against my chest. She bats at my face and smiles. “Daddy is a jealous, possessive, sex-starved jerk.”
“You two actually like each other.” He shakes his head as if he’s struggling to believe it.
“Yes, we do. Before you rudely interrupted, I was getting ready to show your mature, responsible, dirty talking, sexy as fuck older sister how much I love her, but you interrupted, so you get to hear it instead.”
She hops up onto the counter. I groan, “Don’t do that.”
“Do what?” Her eyes widen, and she freezes. “Oh, right.”
“You two are gross.” Andrew spins around, yanks open the refrigerator door, and grabs another beer. “Do you two want one?”
“No. I don’t want anything that dulls the senses,” I say. Our pact to cool the flirting has flown out the window.
“Please, don’t elaborate,” He mutters with his head still in the refrigerator.
I step between her legs, causing my cock to jerk to life. Down boy. Andrew doesn’t want to see the evidence of how we can’t keep our hands off each other. She bites her bottom lip and stares at my crotch. Her eyes light up with humor, and she mouths, “I want to suck your–”
“Stop.” He slams the door shut, making the rest of the bottles shake. “I get it. You two are hot for each other and screw like rabbits. You don’t have to beat me over the head with it.” He twists the top of the bottle off and throws it into the trash.
Mia jumps down. “I’m sorry. We can be serious.”
Andrew shakes his head. “Whose house did I walk into? Jackson turns down a drink, and you can’t stop making sexual innuendos.”
“Ours.” I bounce Hadley on my hip to keep her from getting frustrated as she bats at my cheek with a big grin and drool dripping off her chin.
“This is surreal. I never thought I’d see the day when the two of you got along. And I certainly never thought you’d be a couple. I’m not saying I’m against it. I’m just thrown for a loop.”
“You don’t have to feel bad about it. You won’t be the only person who questions what we’re doing, but we even each other out. He reminds me not to think so much.”
“And she reminds me to think more.” I chuckle.
“No, I don’t.” She studies me. “If I wasn’t here, you would still have it all together. It’s not because of me that you have a steady job that you love. Or a home that’s paid for, or a baby you took into your home at first sight. You did all of that on your own. You’re an wonderful guy.”
“You did get pretty lucky, didn’t you?”
