“Fine,” I said. “Nice to meet you, William.”
“Nice to meet you as well, Chloe.”
“Don’t take it personally, but if I say yes to going out with you, I’ll need something of yours to keep as collateral,” I said. “I’ll give it back to you once you drop me off at home.”
“I see.” He unclasped his watch and secured it around my wrist. “This is an heirloom. It’s worth over two hundred thousand pounds.”
“How much did you pay for it, though?”
“What?” A slow smile spread across his face, and his dimples deepened.
“I’m just asking,” I said. “I bought this Coach purse on Canale Street in New York years ago. I paid fifty dollars, but it looks like it’s worth five hundred.”
“It was a gift from my mother,” he said, laughing again. “Do we have an arrangement, Chloe?”
“Only if you’re planning to put on some real clothes.”
“Would you like me to?”
No. “Yes, please.”
“Okay.” He held out his hand for me to shake, sending a jolt of heat through my body.
“Deal.”
