Page 2 of His for the Summer

I remembered seeing her at her mother’s funeral. She was a pretty girl then, but Marley Roberts had blossomed into a gorgeous and sexy woman. She had on this tiny black dress that covered her in all the right spots but also revealed her knockout figure tastefully. Her blonde hair was done up in some sort of messy bun and her green eyes sparkled in the light of the dining room.

I couldn’t believe she was single. She claimed during dinner it was because she was focused on her career right now, but I had a feeling Marley had trouble finding a man that satisfied her intellectually and physically. I thought back to myself back then. I was a selfish idiot and lucky I had managed to snag my wife.

After she died, I had no plans to remarry, throwing myself into my work. Of course that wasn’t different, but I was twice the age of Marley and had lived some. She had her whole life ahead of her.

When I asked Marley to dance, she agreed, although somewhat reluctantly. As we made our way to the dance floor, I had to tease her.

“You didn’t seem too excited to dance with me. Are you embarrassed to be dancing with a man old enough to be your father?”

She shook her head and her eyes twinkled in the light when she laughed. “No, I felt bad leaving Dad alone.”

I glanced over at Dale and he was already talking to a couple of other guys. “I think your dad is okay.” I nodded in his direction and she turned her head.

Marley turned back to me and giggled. “Of course. Mom always said Dad had never met a stranger.”

We both laughed. “Your mom was a great lady.”

“I know. I miss her.”

She got quiet and I immediately regretted bringing her up. We danced in silence but I couldn’t help but notice how perfectly Marley fit against me. I pulled her in a bit closer before I realized it and she looked at me. When she didn’t protest, I kept her there.

Her hand was warm and soft on my neck, playing with the short hair there.

When the song finally ended, I led her off of the dance floor. Her mood had changed and I blamed myself for bringing up her mother.

We found Dale sitting at a table, talking to a few guys. We joined them and waved a waitress over to order some drinks. Marley didn’t say anything, eventually turning to her dad.

“Dad, I’m tired from traveling and all that today. I’m going to head back to the cabin and crash.” She stood up and kissed his cheek. “I saw they’re giving golf cart rides to cabins tonight. I’ll catch one of them. You stay and enjoy yourself.”

I watched her walk away, disappointed she was leaving us. With her gone, I didn’t feel like being out any longer either. I had one more drink and went back to my cabin as well, falling asleep to thoughts of Marley wearing that dress.

The next morning I met Dale for golf. We had breakfast after and he told me Marley was down at the pool. I suggested we head that way and he agreed.

I was dying to see Marley in a bathing suit. God, I was a dirty old man, lusting after my best friend’s twenty-one year old daughter.

Of course, she didn’t disappoint me. Marley was lying out in the sun with a tiny pink bikini on. I was shocked Dale didn’t tell her to cover up as every guy - young and old - was drooling over her.

“Hey guys, how was golf?” She put her book down and sat up. She smiled at both of us and I sat down on the chair next to her.

“Good. I let your dad win as usual,” I teased and she laughed.

“That’s probably a good idea, you know what a sore loser he is when he doesn’t win.” She winked at him and he rolled his eyes, sitting on the other side of her.

“It’s not fair when you guys gang up on me, ya know.” He removed his shirt and grabbed his Kindle. A waitress came over and we all ordered drinks.

I laid back in my chair, closing my eyes, painfully aware of the blonde bombshell mostly naked next to me.

Later that afternoon, they made an announcement about the night’s activities. They mentioned a ballroom dance class right after dinner and Marley popped up in her chair.

“Dad, we have to do that. I’ve always wanted to take dance lessons. Please!” She begged him.

He groaned and looked at her with eye. “You know my knees are shit. I can’t dance. My plan was to spend most evenings after dinner playing poker anyway.” Dale glanced over at me. “Why don’t you go with her, Silas?”

“Dad, he doesn’t want to waste his time learning how to dance with me. You come.”

“I’ll do it.” I quickly interjected. Any chance to be alone and close to Marley, I would take it.

“There, it’s settled. Silas will take you dancing after dinner.” He closed his eyes again, the matter closed.
